Default DW HELP! New DW Install Issue with No Mouse Cursor Response

Yesterday, downloaded new DW disc onto my high end gaming Dell laptop Windows 7... also, today, downloaded Patch 1.4... following issues:
1. DW downloaded quickly & smoothly... also downloaded the Voice Recognition Program. However, on the menu screens, I can't get the mouse pointer to work in order to click on various boxes. I changed mouse & batteries & no cursor on the game so I can't play it. I did an uninstall on the Voice Program but it still pops up on the game menus begging me to energize it!
2. I downloaded the Patch 1.4, but on the DW properties, it shows no downloads today, only the initial download of DW yesterday. How do I know if the patch took or not on the game... there is a folder showing the patch, but no inication on the game.
Thanks for your help... by the way, I am a 72 year old man late comer to computers, so thanks for being simple.

Captain Potts:

I'm not sure but you seem to get 2 words mixed up. Downloading is commonly reffered to the process of getting files transmitted to your pc from the internet. Installing is the one time process of setting up an application to work on your pc. Sometimes this can happen automatically by just clicking an internet link. You can even buy Dangerous Waters from the internet via Steam if I remeber correctly (never done this myself), which would also take care of the downloading and installing. But I gather from your information sofar that you have physical cdrom disks with Dangerous waters on it. Right?

If so, I suggest you reinstall the game, and specify a different install location. This makes future file manipulations like the patch or adding missions much easier. You can remove the "Program Files\" part from the suggested location to keep it simple. I think the game would then be located in the folder C:\Sonalysts\Dangerous Waters, or something to that effect.

In regards to your questions:

1. Could you please post the contents of your dangerouswaters.ini file (it's in the game's folder if you have run it atleast once)

Please put it your message like this, it makes it easier to read: (but remove the spaces between the o and d)

[co de]insert dangerouswaters.ini content here[/co de]

The voice recognition can be ignored for the time being, or shutdown by clicking on it's cross button.

2. The patch is an executable that needs to be run manually (with administrator credentials acknowledged) I don't know where you normaly save downloaded files. That's where I'd look. Or just download again, and save directly to the game folder. After that, locate the file with explorer (windows explorer, not internet explorer), and just double click on it if you are the administrator account yourself, else rightclick on the file and choose "Run as Administrator"
The first screen prior to the intro movie should display the version and buildnumber. If it is patch the version number should display 104.

Default Help! Dangerous Waters

Hi Piscis! Thank you very much for your response... however, I tried to do everything you suggested 2 or 3 times to no avail & wound up with a new problem... When I tried to run DW, I got a Fatal Error msg that the English Version was not available.
After I read your post, I uninstalled everything & "installed" again &, as you suggested, I put it in my documents section instead of programs... something went into programs but most went into documents where I moved them into a DW Folder. Then I downloaded the V1.04 patch (the discs I installed opening page said it was V1.02). Still not able to use the cursor inside DW sim...
So I did everything all over again & got the Fatal Error msg about "No English" & couldn't get into the game at all... I just Uninstalled everthing again... I briefly saw the .ini file you wanted to see but it disappeared immediately & I could not get it back. Am on the verge of giving up.
Any other suggestions?

No, (My) Documents is not the proper place to install it to. It may not matter to you, but no other user account can then run the game, as they do not have access rights to your Documents folder. And it may even have deeper consequences that prevents playing it. Just specify an install location like: C:\Games\DangerousWaters

Are you sure you have the English version of the game? There were also German, French versions. They need a special patch. That could explain the error message.
