Default Huge explosions!

Just a little of my observations and a question.

I noticed that some ships sink after a hit with only one torpedo with a huge explosion and goes down literally within a few seconds.
This happens usually with ships in convoys: tankers, large merchants and the empire type freighters, sometimes also with other type of ships.
Sinking these ships when they travel alone is a bit harder and I go with a salvo to be sure.
But when attacking convoys I started to use the one torpedo, one ship method because there's a big chance of success.
These huge explosions happens with impact torps (at 3-4 m) and with magnetic also, no matter where I hit the ship.
It could be possible if you hit the engine room, fuel tanks.

But what if you hit the cargo hold?

For the tankers it's ok to explode because they carrying highly explosive material, for the other ships it would be possible if they carrying ammunition or explosives or ...

Is it actually modeled in the game that sinking also depends on what is their cargo?

P.S. I play GWX Gold with enhanced damage effects enabled, maybe that's why is it happening?

My last freighter was disabled by a torpedo to a stern and finished off with the deck gun. It caught fire really good after the 5th shell (out of 15) to the water line yet FSC reported that its cargo was coffee. Must've been the strong kind lol

The game models three types of cargo: Freight, Fuel, and Ammunition. Any cargo ship can carry any type of cargo. It's possible that too many ships in your campaign layer are modeled to carry fuel and ammo - the most common types of cargo were non flammable.

Then it's logical that these types of "sensitive" cargo would be transported via convoys, so there's nothing unusual to see explosions more often.
I will just sit back and enjoy the fireworks!

You've probably hit what we call 'a sweet spot'....a fuel bunker perhaps.

Just wait until you find the buggas that are virtually unsinkable....those with a cargo of cork or ping pong balls

You probably prefer those that carry a cargo of lifejackets

The last time I had a good Convoy in my scope?
They must have had the entire Worlds production of ping pong balls and cork!
All headed to the UK.
(Or I could just suck at sinking things. )
NAH!
Those Brits have been hoarding ping pong balls and cork for YEARS!

so you can have different sub categorys of frieght, fuel and ammunition? for example, there would be a difference in a cargo of paper and a cargo of wood? (if they both count as frieght)

Yeah, one is just that bit more compressed and bulkier.
