OR...they could create jobs by picking it all up anyways and have a sorting facility where the recyclable bits are separated out by hand. But hey, go ahead and fine people to generate revenue instead.

Some communities will lose state or even federal funding if their recycling is not up to some minimum. I seem to remember that in my county the amount was about 25%.

They already do it here in Australia, Some of the garbage trucks are fitted with cameras so they can monitor what rubbish comes out of your bin. If they see to much that can be recycled they can send reminders on recycling options.

The recycling bins are checked by council rangers, who check to see if the wrong things are in the bin, if they are, they take a photo of your bin's contents and ban it from being collected till the offending items are removed.

Some bins are microchip-ed, so that a log can be kept on how much rubbish is thrown out and how much is recycled.

The waste management companies already recycle to their profit.

Sorry but I won't recycle for free.

I also will not pay for health insurance the first few years. It will cost less in the tax penalty than to pay for the insurance.

You can get a £500 fine if your bin lid is open due to the rubbish your unable to close it!

You can get a £200 fine if you put your bin out a day early!

You can get a £200 fine for blocking the pavement outside your house with your bin!

You can get a £100 fine if you leave your bin out after collection!

Just some of the great fines you can get here in the UK.

In my hometown they tried a few recycling collection methods, the cheapest and to my mind most effective one was to have a separate bin for *all* recyclables except glass, and have that sorted by hamd at the dump. Paid for by increased bin charges, but by no measn a large increase.

I live in an apartment block.
Our binmen leave the emptied bins outside the property on the pavement.
The council then threaten to fine us (the residents) for blocking the pavement.
Brilliant.

And yes, I know the easiest solution is for us the residents to move them back in.
But, we all work during the day. The bins get emptied and left on the pavement in the morning, just after we've all left for work.
So then they are there all day, until about 6pm when the first of us gets back from work.

This isn't good enough apparently.
We're going to get fined if this continues.

What do they want, for one of us to take a day off work every week to move the bins back into the front garden?

It's absolutely bloody ridiculous.

Default Good neighbours

What you need to do is move the bins to the next building one day, to the one on the other side the next, across the street another time. In this way all the neighbours are pissed off.

Then circulate a petition among all the area demanding change.

Should make for some interesting street discussions.

Yeah STEED, but let's be honest here, you live in a unique area in the UK....the only area where the bin men deliver
