Default I think this would put the damper on the wedding.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe...ex.html?hpt=T2

Groom accidentally kills wedding guests

Quote:
Three family members at a wedding in Turkey have been accidentally shot dead by the groom firing an AK-47 rifle in celebration.

The groom, Tevfik Altin, lost control of his rifle, spraying the guests with bullets and killing his father and two aunts and injuring six others, according to CNN Turk.

It reported that Altin had been arrested after the incident in the village of Akcagoze in southeastern Turkey. Guns are often fired into the air in celebration in some parts of Turkey.

One family member, who did not give his name, told CNN: "It happened very quickly. We all tried to take cover and there was blood all over. We are all very sad right now."

The injured guests included three children aged 10, 12 and 16, according to CNN Turk.

The Sehitkamil State hospital where some of the injured were brought confirmed it has one patient still in the hospital.

I have a feeling that alcohol was involved. Nothing like shootin up some kids to get the reception going.

Knowing Turks, I imagine that the family of the bride will be "discussing" this with the groom. Or I should say the family of the soon-to-be-widow that is.

Are AK-47s de rigueur in today's society weddings? I wonder what Emily Post would say about it.

I've always wondered at the predeliction for people to fire automatic weapons into the air in celebration. Do they not comprehend the concept of gravity?

What goes up will come down... and probably with a lot of kinetic energy.

But I agree with you. I just don't get the gun fire celebration thing.

a bullet falling at terminal velocity will hurt, but wont kill you, probably wont even break the skin. Besides the likely hood of getting hit by a bullet you fire straight in the air is slim to none, due to wind.

The habit is retarded though.

Edit: the kinetic energy of a typical fmj round from an ak47 falling at terminal velocity is about 32 to 40 joules. the muzzle energy of the same round is somewhere in the 2,000 joule range. Even the pansie .22LR has at least 3 times the amount of energy.

It would be a blessing for most of the Subsim/queer membership.

Subsim membership has treated me poorly and now I return the favor.

Just trying to make you feel better. Clearly you are upset at something. I would rather you work things out and stay in this forum community than leave. But that's your choice.

Since were talking about life. Here's something very basic to interpersonal communication in the working world:

It's not what you say, it's how others perceive it.

I'll tell ya, I feel a bit persecuted,. I was banned for 10 days because of my signature. The sig which was first said in a 1949 film. It regarded cukoo clocks.

I was also placed under a viel of suspiscion for being some one I am not.

Now I am accused of being stupid, answering questions which weren't asked, and divulging state secrets.

All I can say is if any of the above is true. You all will be witness to the greatest arrest, of the greatest master spy in history!

Saw on TV a while ago US troops in Baghdad talking about the one day of the week when all the weddings take place. They call it "celebratory gunfire". They also said how to tell the difference between that and the real stuff.

If it goes Ratatatattatatatatatatat *click* its celebratory gunfire
If it goes Pap pap pap....... pap pap pap pap they are shooting at you for real.

Well I think even 32-40 Joule are enough, given our weak air guns here which have a 7.5 J limit and are able to penetrate skin on short distances.
This interesting report from surgeons: http://ats.ctsnetjournals.org/cgi/content/full/83/1/283 also states that falling bullets can indeed kill you. The report states that a velocity between 148 and 197 feet per second is required to penetrate skin, while a falling bullet has up to 600fps.

What I cannot understand is that the celebrators don't use blanks to shoot, maybe it's a matter of availability.
