Default I Couldn't Help Myself. (UPDATED: Picture Story)

In the spirit of furthering advances in the field of science-like, I decided to conduct an experiment on the feasibility of sending a Jap into space.

Now, at this point in time, let us all synchronise our watches and count down 10 seconds in order to re-create the amount of time it actually took before the re-entry vehicle came back into view.

OK, that's enough time. Let us continue with the experiment.

By golly, it worked! And I also learned that PT boats do, in fact, sink.

Yep, they sink alright.
They fly first.
But then they definitely sink

You're off you're meds again, aren't you?

I've had some running gun battles with them, but never torp'd one.

Gonna try RFB after I get tired of shooting zombies......

Yay for Nazi Zombies!!!!

But this one guy i admire, made some SH3 films on Youtube, Mr. Fleck, he did the films Dolphin (jumping VIIC) and Fate, said he could do that to a Dido class cruiser. Never did though.

Would you do this again, and take a pic of the PT boat somewere...Higher?

I honestly tried but it flew so high that I couldn't find it at first.

Well, i dont remember if it was SH3(more likely) or SH4, but i torpedo'ed something, a PT boat maybe...Yea, SH3, and it goes to the bottom, bounces, and pops back up, floats, then i get Ship sunk! message...and as im watching...im like...what? It already hit bottom!

Havent been able to recreate it either.

I don't believe it! No sooner do I manage to successfully conduct what appears to be a once in a wartime, stratospheric experiment on Japstronauts, that I find myself (quite soon afterwards) with another opportunity to improve my technique. This time, it was at the harbor in Ponape (AKA, Kolonia). One torp set for contact influence and that poor little PT Boat shot up like a flea on a hot brick. I was able to get a lot of SS this time. The PT Boat began to spin rapidly, like a top. Must've been, at least, 500 revolutions per minute, no exaggeration. Using the 4 story buildings in the background as a rough guide, I estimated the dock cranes to be about 75 feet high. With this in mind, I estimated the height that the PT Boat traveled to be in excess of 300 feet.
The best part was the landing. The boat bounced off the dock and went back up to about 150 feet, popping, sparking and releasing aerial bursts all the while. It was still spinning at an astonishing rate too. The second bounce sent it over a hill where it landed in another dock on the opposite side approximately 1000yds away. That's over a half mile!
I had no idea this game would make me laugh so hard. I'm almost in tears right now.

Yeah, that's about it. Though the ship-spin in the seconds vid looks slo-mo compared to the rifled-bore action of my PT boat.

If you can manage to hit one with your torp the IJN flying boats will also attempt to send its crew to the moon.

It is pretty tricky though I hit one once by accident when I was aiming at a tanker inside a harbor and the torpedo was running so shallow it hit this Jap flying boat moored in front of the tanker that I had not even seen in the darkness until one torpedo blew up early and I saw the flying boat shot up into the sky. I think Vontrapps patrol boat got a little higher than my flying boat.

I wonder if the amount of explosives in the torpedo has any effect? Someone has to try a Mk.16 against a small boat or moored flying boat.

This is an update involving my second attempt in the field of atmospheric research. There are way too many SS in this series for me to post them all so, I'll just include the funniest , ahem, excuse me , most relevant to my experiment.

Moment of impact:

The following pics are in sequential order. Yes, those are clouds in the background:

This picture is after 2 consecutive bounces. The arrow denotes the re-entry vehicle in it's final stage of descent, heading over the mountain.

Though this was totally unexpected in my control group, it was a fortuitous coincidence nevertheless. The re-entry vehicle struck a Medium European Composite, pushing it out of the dock and subsequently sinking it.

In this photo, you have the last point of impact (or bounce, if you will) marked by the plume of smoke on the left, followed by the re-entry vehicle's final resting place approximately 1000yds away, marked by the plume of smoke on the right.

So, ends our experiment on Nippon De Plume.
