Default Got a couple questions

Hey everyone, I've got a couple questions. I got SH3 a week ago and I've had immense fun with it. I've got GWX 3.0 and AMC-GUI Reloaded, and I love it. I'm about to start my 5th patrol, but before I d, I wanted to get a few things cleared up.

1. On my 4th patrol, I was out convoy hunting, and I found a convoy southwest of Britain. I sneaked in and nabbed two merchies and began to make my escape. I had just slipped past two, or maybe three destroyers and I saw a strange icon on the map. What exactly is that grey icon? I know it means a ship sunk, but was it a collision, or something else?

2. I know how to read radio messages, and I know how to send staus reports, but what exactly are contact reports? I know WHAT they are, but when can you send them? I'm assuming that you send them when you're within sight of enemy units so that other U-boats can find you.

3. Sometimes, and this only happens when attacking convoys, my speakers completely overload with what seems like static. It's a loud static-like sound, and it lasts for 1-2 minutes. I don't know if this is a bug or something else.

Thanks for any help you can give me. Good hunting!

1. IIRC a grey "sunk ship" icon means the ship went down but you did not cause the damage that sank it. It may have been due to bad weather, attack from another enemy vessel, or any number of reasons - but you aren't responsible for the kill and will not get credit for it.

2. Contact reports are just what they sound like - if you sight a convoy, for instance, you can send a message to BdU letting them know about it. Whether or not the game does anything with this, like sending in the Luftwaffe (if you're in range of air support) or other u-boats in the area, I really don't know. If I spot something worthy of reporting to BdU (like a convoy I hadn't already heard about via someone else reporting it and BdU passing on the info) I usually get so excited that I forget to radio it in.

3. This one I have no personal experience with, although some players have said they had sound issues when they were using their system's onboard audio that were solved either by tweaking the settings for that or by switching to a sound card. Someone else may have a better answer for you on this one but if you're using onboard audio that could be one thing to look at in the meantime.

Happy hunting!

Most Americans speak pretty bad English as well.

Which is not quite the same thing as being unfamiliar with internet jargon, webspeak 2.0, lolcat, or whatever the heck the kids are calling it these days. 'Tis an acquired habit/skill/inclination/eccentricity.

Don't worry, WYBAFAWIWACN.

Also, IMOMNHJMTOU.
