realistic navigation, maybe?

hello my name is evonator3 ( stupid name, yes). im new here and have had sh5 for awhile now and i love some of the mods that have been made for it which make it much better then it was. but there is one thing thats been bugging me, being a sailor myself i have to manually plot my course and find out were i am. (i don't trust GPS for some reason) so i was wondering if was possible to make the navigation a whole lot more realistic. or is this to much of a long shot? or just not possible? just a thought, thank you for your time.

Personally I figure that's why I have a navigator, he knows how to do all that!

However, I do think it would be kinda cool if the accuracy of your position indicator on the map depended on having a clear sight of the sun or stars within x hrs or else you would start to drift off course (own sub indicator could fade like a lost contact).

Which brings up an interesting question... American subs' obs scopes could go vertical partly because they could be used for stellar navigation while submerged; I know the U-boats had obs scopes that could go to 90º elevation, but could they/were they used for stellar navigation?

well i mean you wont have an icon being updated every second and never losing your direction. plus you wont have a big blue line to follow and evaporate as you travel over it. but i think it would be cool to have like a series of little marks to show were you have been at like 30 minutes to an hour intervals rather then were you are going. but i dont know the extent of this for i am no modder. i wish i could be but i just dont have the patients

It'd sure make plotting convoy intercepts a lot more involving!

Think of Kiel chanell - you will have to navigate it all by hand since you will not be able to plot course.

I'm toying over this idea currently. I've done something like it when I was just fooling around to see what I could do with the game
