Default hello folks, wot's new?

I have not been on here for a couple of months or so. I decided to put SH5 on the shelf for a while to see if the situation got any better in respect of improving the playability). Booted it up today and saw that it has been patched, and I was able to get up the ladder in one go when I tried - but other than that the negative comments I have seen suggest nothing of any great worth has changed...

Actually, a lot of advancements been made, especially in the past month or so. Quite a few threads have been made lately about mod lists that people are using, they may be a good place to start. With the right mod soup, I really enjoy SH5, and more improvements are being made every day. The cynics will still try to taint your view of the situation, but much of what they have to say about SH5 has already been fixed, or at least improved upon. Good luck.

Hear! Hear!

SH5 is eminently playable with the latest patch and a nice, long list of great mods. I'm having a great time and not missing SH3+GWX at all.

Good hunting!

Agreed. There is fun to be had with this game if you want to. It may not be to some folks' tastes, but give it a try with some of the great mods and an open mind.
I still love looking over the navigator's shoulder at the nav map, then climbing the ladders to the bridge to see what's going on topside. Never gets old.

Have to agree with you about that. The boat is alive and no more teleporting if you don't want. Still enjoy climbing the ladder myself.

i think the destinction to be made is that we have much of the main complaints fixed by "modders" NOT the patch

the patch fixed a few minor issues and thats about all, but the biggest improvement to the game is the mods that are available now have GREATLY improved the game and you should find it to be a much different game then when you shelved it.

Yes, that is what I meant, I should have been more specific.

Then you must not like playing in a Type II. Or playing in 1944.

I'm not saying SH5 doesn't have a lot to offer, I'm just directly addressing your attempt to turn this into yet another spitting contest.

Did I miss something?
I don't read a 'spitting contest' from said post.
Did Poster start something in some other post I missed?

Or did you post a pre-emptive post in an attempt to
prevent a post that prefers a 'spitting contest' type post?

In between downloading mods , screwing around with goblin and going back to base to install other mods i have played a little bit . Its quite fun . If you want good seas then install my waves base mod after any environment mod .

She-Wolf asked what's new with the game. I may be wrong, but why bring SH3 into it at all? She didn't ask how they compared. What if I had replied "Nothing is new, some patches and some mods, but it still lacks anything besides graphics, and SH3 is still much better"? To my mind that's exactly what 'The Other Guy' did.

Now then boys, no squabbling allowed in my thread.

You all sound quite positive, so I am encouraged - but I think I will start from scratch. I have been happily playing SH3, and occasionally SH4, just because I like the way the sea behaves in that game - makes me really feel I am moving through deep ocean swells, however, SH3 is the only game I seem to manage to engage in - my seas were awful empty when I first tried SH5. Right, I shall have another go then - after installing a few choice mods. That will be my next task.

Thank you all for your help

ps, thank you for the welcome back Sailor Steve
