Voice commands

Does anybody in the SH3 community use voice commands?

I've been having a look around and there is a mod for SH4 by minsc_tdp and edited by tomcattwo for SH3, and there are plenty of other voice/gaming software around nowadays. To me this seems like one of the ultimate immersion mods that I've not heard anybody refer to in my short time here!

Although I don't think the wife would be happy in the middle of the night with me shouting ALAAAARRRRMMM trying to get through the Bay of Biscay!

yeah thats for sure.... BUT... voice commands can get VERY frustrating
like i said it took hours to config voice 2 text..... plus i wouldnt be sure if a voice command mod would allow you to config it to your voice...... and you may end up having your missus yell at you to do the dishes or something and you crash dive while in your base.... straight into the sea floor lol

Firstly, the missus doesn't shout - she's much scarier this way!

Secondly, we've got a dishwasher (tried without when we moved but then baby came along, it's worth saving for/getting one!) and am very good at loading/unloading it (better than the wife - I used to fix them so know how to get the best out of them (dishwashers, not the wife)).

Thirdly, I can (do) crash dive all on my own whilst in shallow water. Although better now, I had two computers rigged to same monitor and used to play one game on one, whilst on here (and FB) with the other, I occasionally got the keyboards mixed up and I'd go to type something and hear all sorts of calamitous goings on as I scrambled to change the monitor back...!

I take your point though, but I wonder how 'much improved' voice software has got over the years?

I use VAC and enjoy sailing in and out of harbors under voice control. It works great but it will send a surface command now and then and that can be fatal, so I removed that command from my VAC profile. VAC sets up in minutes.

I use a custom version of Sh3speech, and I love it. I could never get the commands for the mouse to work, so I custimized the program to only handle key commands. Even there I did a fair amount of customizing. That still lets me control 75% or so with voice commands, the rest require clicks of the mouse. Here's a thread:

Once you've figured out how it all works, you'll find it is very 'customizable'.

Have you read Tomcattwo's whole post?

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=132228

Towards the bottom are the requirements, including:

'Microsoft Speech Recognition Application 5.1 (SAPI 5.1) must be installed.'

...but, Win7 (if that's what you use?) ships with SAPI 5.4, I don't know if 5.4 is compatible - you'd have thought so but it is Microsoft we're talking about!
