Silent Hunter 3 and Windows

Can anybody help, I have just reinstalled SH3 after upgading from Windows XP to Windows 7,
I get this error message "osr.1/98/me/nt/4.0/2000/xp/server2003" when I try to run the game. Does anyone have a solution.

I've never heard of such an error message before. Are you sure that is all that is shown? Which version are you trying to install of SH3, v1 somehting, or later. Does it still have the copy-protection stuff in it, or is it a later version that has it removed allready? Exactly at which point in starting the game does it show up?

[EDIT] Found another reference to it. Seems to be caused by screen resolution set too high. SH3 cannot handle higher resolutions than 1024x768, atleast not the default widescreen settings thesedays. See message 14 and further:
