When to visit Pearl to end a mission?

Playing 1.5 TMO tw. When do you to go to Pearl for new crews, medals, etc.? I made a 'pit stop' near Manila to get more torps. Doing that puts me closer to the shipping lanes and hunting grounds! Should I go to Pearl only when HQ request me?

You're a long way from home captain.
I just complete a few missions and than head for Pearl
Maybe one refit since you are where you're at.
Headquarters will keep sending you on new missions as long as you call in.
45 to 60 days is as long as they would stay out. Crew gets kind of restless after that.

Get your upgrades and medals new mission and a refreshed crew.
