This one has me stumped...
My boss bought an external drive to do back ups on one of the computers here. "That should work great" I though.. plugged the drive in and got the message "This device could perform faster if it was plugged into a 2.0 USB port".... Well no kidding.. but wait.. it is plugged into a 2.0 port ![]() I checked the Bios, made sure the drivers are up to date and everything appears to be properly set. There are no specific drivers from MSI for the USB buss.. they come from Microshaft but I updated them with no change. I've run out of ideas and the drive is un-usable it the current configuration as it takes nearly 12 hours to do a full backup. The mobo is a (cheap) MSI V class model PM8M2-V [VIA P4M800 + 8237MR chipset]

Problem solved... there was a device driver placed under "other devices" which had an outdated driver.
Why USB Host controller was listed with the onboard audio drivers I will never know. Updated drivers solved the issue and now it appears under the usb devices as it should.
