Default Game crashes

Hello, I'm new to the forum and hope someone can help me. I just installed the game and everything went fine. I can run the game ( have only tried career mode so far) and the game plays great ..UNTIL...I try to go to any view outside the submarine. All views inside the boat work fine..then I go to a periscope or the bridge and as soon as I click the button..wham...the screen goes black and in a few seconds I get an error msg saying the game crashed and it shuts down. I have looked thru the posts and haven't seen this problem explained yet. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks very much in advance for any responses.

I'll try to help, but I'm no expert. First off, what version of the game do you have 1.4 or 1.5. If you don't have 1.5 I strongly suggest you purchase it. It's only $10.00 to d/l, and it patches the game to v1.5 as well as adds U boat missions. Not to mention the fact that all the major mods are pretty much geared for 1.5.

Next, what are your system specs? Is your rig up to the task of running the game? I know these sound like stupid questions, but we need to know the basics

I have the gold edition..with the U-boat missions...is that the 1.5? I have an "Intel(R) G33/G31 express chipset family" video card with the latest update(2-15-09). Immediately after installation it checked drivers and said it wasn't the optimum but was sufficient. Do you think there is just so much going on in the outside world that my video driver needs upgraded? I went to the HP software site and it said my video driver was a custom setup so they couldn't do any upgrades to it. Should I try buying a higher grade video card in your opinion? Thank you for you respnse. I have seen that there are mnay folks on here that far surpass me with their computer knowledge.

Have you tried to turn all your graphics settings in the game down as low as they go and see what happens? In the Career Mode you need to click on the radio (to the left on the bookcase) in the office to make the settings for Career. Try setting them low with NO MODS and see if it runs ok. If that works then you can change them a little at a time until the problem returns.
