OK just reinstalled and patched now have a bunch of mods installed, see below - have game settings set to full reality except map updates and externals view
Its Oct 1938 - just cam up on a large convoy south west of England - sank 12 ships; admittedly I used the deck gun on some, not one dud torpedo. Remember that early on and through the " Happy Times " it was basically a crap-shoot for the Kriegsmarine
![]() Some folks are wanting the AI to be in the early years what is was say from mid-1941 until the end of the war, and that is not accurate\realistic. In saying that the AI is far from perfect, but I have used some of those mods you have listed and have found the game to be more challenging. turn off map updates, bite the bullet and turn off external cam ( i would find myself totally exploiting it with MCU off), and play a patrol like that.
If you cant do the manual target math just motor right on into the convoy and fire some 400m hail marys. |

![]() ![]() In fact, thanks to the U-Boat Killer mod, my boat is currently heavily damaged from some well placed depth charge, and I am limping back to my home port. Also, you have a couple of conflicting mods in there, so you will not be getting the full effect of some of them. I hope this advice helps your SH5 experience. Edit: That's 2 un-escorted convoys in 1.8 million grt sunk. |

Totally agree with mobucks, turn of map contacts and external camera. Actually find somewhat strange that you call the game unrealistic and want something harder, but still use map contacts...

Go into
C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Campaigns\CampaignProjects\Total_Germany\ca mpaign and change the tonnage to a higher value .What is needed is an entire campaign rewrite . |

I installed the Reduced Tonnage mod because the target tonnage in the vanilla game were so silly - if a single boat could have scored the kind of tonnage they were asking Germany would have won the war hands down Any way I've updated the elete campagn and followed some of the other suggestions in this thread so hopefully my game experience will change Still wondering if any one is working on a real big makeover for this game - it looks good but well it has none of the re-playability of SH3 Thanks to all for the positive suggestions and input R Quote:

What about the No Surface Hydrophone v2 mod .
I modded the TC files so it takes a lot longer to play . Interesting - I might just start fiddling with this - I wonder - I have heard there are a couple of missions in campaigns later in the game that require your sub to sneak into enemy harbours and take photos or drop off spys - which is probably all very exciting but unlikely to have happened - No German naval high commander would have risked an entire Uboat and its crew on this kind of mission, its a fantasy left over from some of the more ridiculous spy novels of the 70's and 80's
Sure the allies dropped a few observers or spys behind enemy lines, thats cos the allied submarine fleet in the Atlantic was relativly unemployed in comparison to the U-Boats which were 100% engaged, but even then it was a rare event and not a standard mission So if you can edit the tonnage or the campaign Projects I wonder if one could delete these unrealistic missions - has any one tried this Best Regards to subsim community R |

I play with map contact updates on but external and everything else off, I also occasionally turn off the TDC and "shoot from the hip".
But its early in the war, its supposed to be easy. Try turning off external cam. |
