Default It's time to give sh5 a 2nd look!

Despite the lackluster affects of recent patch, the modders are providing most if not all of the elements we had hopes for since before SH5 was released! Now although most of us, including myself, have bashed this release with good reason, I'm begining to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Of course credit must be given to the Devs and UBI for allowing the Sim to be as moddable ( granted an SDK program would have been full bore impressive )
The list of mods is truly impressive for this early stage and ultimately with the GREAT TOOL of JSGME, we can fine tune the sim to our pleasure.
The DRM issue seems to remain as a showstopper ( understandable for those with no or poor internet connections ) but is proving to be less of an issue to solid connections.
THE BOTTOM LINE,MODDERS !!!!
( Now if we could just get a Wolfpack mod, HeHe )

I have to agree. It won't be long before I restart my SH5 career (just trying to see how long it takes me to die in SH3 first)

The list of mods is quite impressive now , and just seems to get better and better. I've already downloaded a few in preparation for my next SH5 patrol.

So I'll finish up by saying a big thankyou to all the modders out there who have worked tirelessly on all the various SH titles

The game now is quite enjoyable and very playable, the patch worked wonders for me (1.2) and the modders have filled in the missing gaps, and have really done some excellent work, thanks much!

I shelved SH5 some time ago, really want to try it again, though. Might very well reinstall it when I find some time, gotta get that next release of the First Strike mod out the door first, though.

I'm enjoying it so far. Aside from the odd thing here and there, it is quite a good game with the right mods

I'm starting to get back into it myself. I stopped early in the camp so it will still be new for me.

Dark's UI really makes the difference with the game.

Fired the game up for the first time in about a month, I'd really forgotten how pretty it is.

The new DarkWraith UI mod is superb , the best incarnation of it yet. Makes everything so easy to use and I really like the teleport buttons, no more running around the sub getting lost lol.

I'm trying out the elite campaign mod by Ddrgn - not had a run in with any destroyers yet but looking forward to it happening.

So it looks like I'll be playing SH5 and 3 from now on lol

I agree. I gave up on SH4 around patch 2 despite the available mods but SH5 seems to be growing on me. It took on a whole new interest for me due in no small part to the sterling work applied in Darkwraith's New UIs with TDC v2.5.0 (newcomers grab it at at link below).

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1811)

I'm also surprised to see how moddable (or to give it the more technical term, data-driven) SH5 is. Looking through the SH5 directory reveals many resource files are exposed for manipulation. I was especially intrigued by some of the files in the Data/Terrain folder. There seems to be many map texture files that do not seem to be used in the game.

There's also cryptic things like this with filename, MapTacticalNotebook.jpg, in other SH5 folders too :

Now I'm not sure if some of these are due to the numerous mods I've installed but none of them seem to be used in-game as far as I can see.

Does this imply that the devs had a lot of features in mind but a lot of which never got implemented for some reason or other (looks scathingly at Ubisoft and their unreasonable time to market deadlines)?
