Default Yellow Sea depths.

Attn all sub drivers who may be assigned to patrol the Yellow Sea. I've just returned from there and despite the lack of contact I was one nervous nelly as the depths varied so much but definitely on the shallow side. For your gaming info:

From: COMSUBPAC
To: US fleet operations
Subject: Yellow Sea depth updates.
1. USS Pickerel (SS-177) conducted soundings while on patrol Yellow Sea. Info accurate as of Oct 22, 1942.
2. North of 37N latitude, depths vary substantially. Sample soundings within 100-mile radius;
61ft
90ft
120ft
124ft
135ft
516ft
3. Current charts do not accurately reflect variation of depths in this patrol area.
4. Submarine commanders are directed to use extreme caution in this area of Yellow Sea.

MSG ENDS.

Well if that is multiple choice I'll take F 516 feet for $50.00.
That is a good area to stay out of.

Looks like an underwater mountain chain. I wonder if anyone has any links to a modern depth sounding map of the Yellow Sea?

Default Not in any order

The list of depths are not in any particular order I just listed them from shallowest to deepest to give an idea of the variation. The Sea is overall quite shallow for sub ops with "pockets" and "valleys" that drop into decent depths. The 516ft sounding for example was basically a 'hole' in one area and not much of a manouvering hole either, LOL.

I guess you could go sit in one of those holes near a port and wait for incoming/outgoing merchant traffic then dive to the bottom and hide if any escorts come looking for you

You could call it Tomoose's Yo-yo Trick
