Default frustrated skipper

I really DO appreciate the work that teh MOD crews do on these sims. For me it's all about historical accuracy and emmersion. But right now I have a straight SH4/Uboats/TMO install and I never know when my career is going to be stopped short by crashes or bugs.

I reach a certain point in my career and when I reload that save I get to the load screen where the interior of the sub is about to appear and I get dumped out with an error message!

I HAVE uninstalled, defragged and reinstalled but it does not save a corrupted career.

Any advice on stabilizing this mod or a workaround for this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Well not to knock your problems, but looking for complete historical immersion and accuracy, that relm is covered by RFB+ RSRD. TMO is more action + extra difficulty. Playing TMO clean Im getting more encounters than I did with TMO + RSRD. RSRD redoes the campaign layers as accuratly as the modders could find with extensive research, most major battles, very accurate shipping lanes. Not that TMO makes it an arcade by any stretch and I do believe it massages the campaign layers to make it more historical than stock. But the goal of RFB and RSRD are historical accuracy and realism. TMO is for the challenge. Feel free to correct me anybody.

I have the steam version of all the SH games (3,4,5) and had no problem installing any mods on my game versions if you follow the instructions step by step.

You say you reach a certain point. What do you mean by that? the same point every time? Are you going on very long patrols? like refitting mulitple times rather than RTB and ending your patrol. Ive heard staying out on longer patrols by refitting adds to the amount of stuff the game saves and it builds up rather quickly and can cause slowdowns and Im sure instability. I keep my patrols to one refit max. But Im no comp wiz or anythign, just spitballing ideas.

perhaps redownload TMO to make sure you do not have a corrupt file?

I use SH4/UBM/RFB 2/RSRDC and cannot remember ever having SH4 CTD on me. Its a very stable program.

Default Thanks for the answers -

I knew that Fleet Boats was MORE historic but TMO was reccomended to me as a good intermediate mod.

Anyway what I mean by 'a certain point is', On my fist patrol I sail to Empire Waters, drop off an agent, sink one frighter and manually save the game. When I reload that game, the load doesn't complete. Any earlier saves are fine. I tried loading an ealier save, playing past that point in time and saving again but that doesn't work either.

ahhh, that may be the infamous save game bug which has been haunting SH3 and SH4 skippers for years and ruined way more careers than enemy ASW ever did. Everyone has their own ritual and no one has found the magic formula. Based on other recommandations, I save on the nav map, surfaced, game paused, well away from enemy ships, spin three times, scratch my dog's belly and hope for the best...

save early and save often, YMMV.

And then many like me have hundreds of saves without a problem with a corrupt save, no matter what the circumstances. Now, just like in SH3 if you change your mod configuration and then load a game save in a previous one it's not guaranteed to work. That will crash the system just about every time.

But my experience is that SH4 is the most stable game I've played.

Might try this go back 2 saves and delete the last save and the one before it.
Might be something in the second save that is bad????
