Default [TEC] Can you model with Solidworks

Well long story short, my computer had to get some repairs done, and when my HDD was wiped, I lost my copy of 3ds Max(this is as far as I go.) But I did get a copy of Solidworks from a friend. I was wondering if I would beable to do the models on there?

Its a type inwhich you draw out the piece, then send it over to an assembly, and put it all together... but would this work for this type of work?

Thanks
-Gun
