Just downloading the trial now, 4.5 GB, no less!
Anyone playing it? Thoughts? If i like the trial, i think i might give it a shot, i did start the LOTR Online thread too, but thinking overall i might lean towards WOW... if, and if WOW disappoints, then LOTR might be the one. Is it really as addictive as people say? I'm checking their forums out as i write this, a lot of problems with hackers, trying to catch the noobs, sell their gold etc..people trying to pose as GM's, hmmm, any of you guys that play see this? Or is it isolated? Looking for inside info, from ppl that are playing the game... cheers. |

I downloaded the "free" trial a while ago.
Unless they've changed it, it still asks for a credit card number, before it lets you play the "free" trial. ![]() I hit "delete" on that one pretty quickly. |

Yep i play WoW just not as often as i use to. 80 Orc warrior, many low level characters & did have a 80 bloodelf hunter but deleted him after a rage ingame
![]() The expansion Cataclysm hopefully will be out this year comes with two new playable races - worgen and goblins. The screenshots wont mean much to someone that hasn't played the game but for those that still do their are some big changes in the landscapes for instance the area thousand needles is now flooded was all desert, and Azshara has a huge port and paradise hotel etc., Cataclysm screenshots http://www.mmo-champion.com/ My Warrior specs http://www.wowarmory.com/character-s...cn=Konradcurze I play on Tichondrius (pvp) realm, its pretty brutal, ![]() Quote:
As for hackers and people posing as GM's never had problems with that side of the game, occasionally in chat your see people advertising their gold sites which we just ignore. Comes down to how stupid are you meaning if someone whispers you saying something along the lines "Hi we need your account details to confirm your the original player" and you give it!?!?! lol GM or Blizz staff would never ask for your password. Just common sense like in all mmos, never give out your details to anyone. Those that get hacked cause give out their details or they downloaded something of the internet where it contains a keylogger so next time they type in their password for wow they could get hacked. I have pw copied to notepad whenever i log into wow i copy/paste the pw in. Last edited by kiwi_2005; 05-09-10 at 01:33 AM. |

So once i downloaded the trial i can't play until i put my cc details in? I thought it's a trial? 10 days then level caps at 20? To go on then you have to pay by upgrading to full? Is this how i understand it? What's the point of d/l if you can't play the trial ie for free to see if you like it? In relation to charging by Blizzard, do they auto bill you a mth in advance? Is it easy to cancel charges to account if one decides not to continue? So obviously for someone new it's best to start in a pve, that makes sense... i'm assuming that will become clear to me at the start? Where to chose or rather how to chose in what setting i want to play? Ie pvp or pve? Does one just switch over to pvp and back to pve? How does that work? Quote:
Another thing, once you cap your level, is that the time you look at expansions? Or before? Also, i'm d/l the trial, once i upgrade to the full version, does this mean i cap at lvl 60 or lvl 80? And in expansions? You stay at the cap? Ie can't go over 80? Or you level higher? |

First World of Warcraft - cap is 60. Thats the one your most likely be downloading unless they have the full package availabe for dl. Then you will need to get the 'Burning Crusade' expansion to go from 60 - 70. (you can go to Burning Crusade at lvl 58) Once you hit 70 your need 'Wrath of the Lich King' to go from 70 to 80. The last expansion Cataclysm when its out will start from 80 - 85. Once you cap to 80 you can't go any higher until the expansion comes out. But the game doesn't stop there its just started really. eg in short - grinding for epics gear, or flying mounts, become a farmer and trade at the auction house making lots of gold, try new professions, Arena gear, Achievements, Titles and so on... Thanks for the info kiwi, d/l the trial, now 700mb to go for the patch
![]() Wanted to play, but have to wait for the dam patch to finish. patch sze is 1.62 gb... is that normal? I'm assuming so, what would that patch include? What, in your opinion is the best character to start out with? What are the differences between horde and alliance? Good and Evil in simpler terms? I've heard that starting out as a palladin is pretty good, easy to level etc, although the hardcore gamers reckon that the palladin cops it from the veterans...ie noob taunts... although grps always look for these later on in the game, due to their healing powers. I like the sound of the Death Knight. Last edited by Feuer Frei!; 05-09-10 at 10:08 AM. |

WoW, one of the grindiest MMO's ever. You grind levels, then you grind gold, then you grind item sets, then you grind pvp levels. I found the game to be utterly mindless and repetitive, and there is always one more little thing to grind for, then the next expansion comes out making all the stuff you spent months on end grinding for, doing the same instances over and over and over and over and over, utterly worthless and requiring more grinding still.
As for addictiveness level, people have actually died from overplaying this game due to not eating and/or not sleeping. |

Yes a paladin is a good choice and is over powered imo doesn't really matter what you spec in the pally he/she will still kickass later on. Good all rounder. They make good tanks in dungeons, good healers and are powerful in bloody pvp as well! I found the hunter is easiest to lvl once you tame a pet at lvl 10 and use him to attack mobs while you stand back and range attack it gets pretty easy. A DK is a very fast lvler and is like a one man tank but you wont have access to him till one of your characters has reached lvl 55 then the dk will be available. I would say try a few characters out it wont take you long to get to 20 by 20 you should know if you want to stick with him or try something else. Once you get to lvl 10 you can start putting points into what spec you want to go, each class has 3 talent builds to put points in eg: Pally can go healer, Retribution or Prot (tank). Healer and Prot are excellent for PVE where Retribution is good for pvp. Every 2 levels you get to add 1 point. Patch size yeah that's pretty normal for the early patches. The difference between Horde and Alliance is one side are pricks and the other are not ![]() Alliance = humans, nightelfs, dwarfs, Draenei & Gnomes (Worgans when expansions out) Horde = Orcs, Trolls, Undead, bloodelfs & Tureans (Goblins expansion out) I prefer the Horde but both sides are fun to play.
