Default Down the throat shot. What is it, and how to perfect it??

Attention on Deck

Hello my fellow seamen,

Today I shall teach you on how to perform a perfect text-book down the throat shot for pursuing destroyers or incoming traffic.

But first, what is a Down the Throat shot??

It's easy.. He's going to run you over..

Feel a bit challenged? Check this wikipedia link

I could incorporate diagrams and all. But I figured a footage should tell it all..

There you go:

As you can see the results are devastating to anything head-on...

With a magnetic detonator, and with proper rise and fall of tide, a single eel could create a pretty good crater right underneath a ship, of course cracking it to a half and sending it to the deep..

I think it's more meant to be used with electric T3 variant since the 'top secret' magnetic pistol is very much reliable when the belly of the boat rubs itself to the eel..

I will record another video with testing for the above theory, and show it to all of you dear kaleuns.. Hope this served your appetite..

Yeah right...try that with manual aiming at a zig-zaging destroyer, you will die in 90% cases. Risky even with the acoustic guided torpedo.

i feel cheap using this tactic because it doesnt seem real that an escort would pick you up and B-line straight to you with no variation in course. As expected you can have great success vs escorts that are doing this.

Sure this works with manual targeting... point and shoot is all you do.

but is there a mod out that makes escorts zag a little while on initial intercept?

In real life this was not a smart thing to do and was used only as a last resort move.
Because it's a do or die thing, if you miss or the torp is a dud or malfuntions you are dead because you have to let the DD get in close enough that he cant out maneuver the torp. And as we all must surely know, no Uboat can outrun or out manuever a DD, nor can he dive fast enough to avoid getting killed with the DD that close, for even if you did get under you still are too close to the surface to avoid the depth charges.

No real life captain would risk it just to kill a DD, if he could escape him any other way. And he certainly wouldn't do it for the fun of it, unless of course he'd gone completely mad and lost his mind.

Are you accusing me of being a madman, Sir??

I have to agree that in real life it's a stupid thing to do, but Sam Dealy, was desperate enough and had no chance of taking out that DD except with such technique..

We all should hold our hats up to this man.. He came home after a close call to death..

Thanks for the input my man..

they only zigzag if you are at surface..

If using a Zaunkoning @<1Km, provided you have a view of his screws, it's a 100% probability of success.. I tried it in SH4 and it worked.. If you want proof in SH5, I'll get it to you once the Zaunkoning becomes available in the pen..

Aye, you are a madman..............but a good madman.............
And well, it is a fun thing and exiting none the less cause after all we are just playing a simulation. And as such can do things like this just for the pure exitement of it. So im not putting this down mind you.
Im certain that we'd love to play out that scene in U-571 where this very tactic was used and luckily for them it worked. and of course as we all know was their only choice in the matter. And that it almost didn't work except for the brave young sailor(under orders) to stop the air leak that was preventing the stern tube from firing.
Had this failed, they were dead.

Except that there was a US skipper in the Pacific in WWII who routinely did just that. On the other hand, he didn't make it back on his last patrol. Sam Dealey of the Harder (which is mentioned in the link above).
