Clay Blair's "Silent Victory" is probably the best one volume history on the U.S. submarine service in WW2.

Excellent......that will keep me up for a wee while. Was just looking for dates of battles, areas, convoy size, that sort of stuff. Just want to see how well the game recreates these.

Can you also expect to see battles in the game...by this I mean actually witness your own ships in action ?

Witnessing the Battle of Sunda Strait is actually sad. The Houston and Perth are just outgunned but they do put up quite a fight. I think I have some pics I'll try putting up later.

Someone may have listed it, but this is my favorite

http://www.historyanimated.com/pacificwaranimated/

Pick a battle and watch the animation. What's good is it shows step by step, where they come from, the path and the battle. It gives you good info where to set up an attack.

Take the Solomons, starting with battle of Coral Sea...I found and sank the Shoho, then cut off the Jap TF above San Cristobal..spl..but great ambush zone. The GC campaign is great, you have Savo island battle, the large battle of Santa Cruz, several large JP TF..ect, so pay attention to those. I don't mess much with all the fast DD's running the slot, but almost nightly, some groups 16 or more...

I've fought every major and most minor battles in RSRD and they seem to be scripted to almost perfection with this animation...Some are fun when you watch large surface forces having at it, planes attacking, ect. Sometimes fun just to hang back and watch em go at it....then you can sneak in and kill the ones dead in the water.

Also pay attention to the invasion forces listed...Like Lae, Wewak, ect..

You ever run into the large invasion force heading for Christmas Island early 42...Nice mix of merchants and warships
