Dude - there are plenty of posts on this. Read the forum. Or read the reviews on various gaming websites (which are thoroughly links through this forum). The SH5 overall appraisal is a matter of some debate. Though I haven't played it , SH5 seems to have carried on in the UBI (Romania?) doctrine of less investment in the quality of the game (particularly in the quality assurance domain). If you felt hosed by the shoddy initial release of SH4, you will probably feel uber hosed in the face by SH5. But anyway, I haven't even played it. Read the posts of the many who have, and who have offered critique and occasional praise.

G'day mate.

Check out this thread on the recent SIMHQ review...

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...t=SimHQ&page=2

Many, including myself, think it's a fairly balanced appraisal of the game in it's current state.

Direct link to review is here...

http://www.simhq.com/_naval/naval_036a.html

Should be a good starting point for you...

Cheers

Before you buy it, my advice would be to wait for the infamous 2nd patch to come out, then see if the major bugs are really fixed.
Personally I'm waiting for the official patches, and final versions of mods or a supermod. In other words I'll probably buy it in a year or two, when it's ready. Cause right now this turkey is a little undercooked.

I'd buy it if I were you.

Seeing as you apparently missed the other five "is it worth it?" posts on the front page of this forum you'll probably have trouble spotting a 40 ship convoy in calm seas and clear skies which might make the game a bit more difficult, but you'll also probably overlook anything that's wrong with it as well.

With mods it's perfectly playable currently. With a miracle we'll get a patch in two weeks or so and make it even better.

I would go on ebay (be careful here) or search around for the "bargin bin" price that some say SH5 is already selling at.

Worth it now... at full price... Nope

Worth it after patch.... maybe.

Worth it after patch, mods.... Yep The modders here never cease to amaze me at what they can do

You need to know up front that you need to be CONSTANTLY CONNECTED TO INTERNET TO PLAY.Not just connected to verify the game when you install.

If you like exercises in aggravation, go for it. Otherwise, check out SH4 with the latest mods.

We'll need to wait for the SH5 "ultra" mod patch to make this game enjoyable.
