Default How does SHV run on 64 Bit?

Hi all,

Just a question to those who run 64 bit operating systems.

I've currently got a system with 4GB RAM, but due to being installed on a 32 bit version of Win7 I don't really get the full advantage of the extra RAM.

I've been considering upgrading to 64 bit Win7 but wanted to know what your experiences of it are. Does it run SHV well (in comparison to a 32 bit system) and are there any other strange bugs you get? I've heard from several friends that often 64 bit isn't exactly gamer friendly.

Thanks,

Sev.

It doesn't run on 32 bit, what makes you think it will run on a 64 bit machine?

Haha! Well, tis runnig fine on my 32bit at the moment. To be fair I've not had a single game freeze/CTD/BSOD or anything similar as of yet. And I've been playing non-stop for over a month now!

Running fine on my rig, 64-bit Win 7.
No CTD's, or other mishaps. (Touch wood).

1920x1200 maxed out everything runs great on Vista 64 bit. Only 1 CTD when I clicked on the hydrophone near an enemy sub. SH5 does seem very hard on the gfx cards though.

SH5 is a 32 bit program.
Even if you have a 64bit machine, SH5 will still run in 32bit mode and not make use of the extra RAM.

Any 32bit program will run on a current 64bit machine, it will just run in 32bit mode.

I just upgraded to win 7 64 bit with 4 gig of ram. I also invested in a good (not top of the line) graphics card for about $150.00 from Worst Buy.

SH5 runs great.

I just wish my POS mother board would accept more than 4 gig.

I don't think it would use more even if your mb accepted it, unless you had a whole bunch of extra stuff running in the background. I have Vista 64 bit heavily tweaked (35 processes running) with 4gigs of memory and leave the resource monitor running and then startup the game and play for awhile. I can then ctrl-alt-delete back to desktop from the game checking whats been used and only about 2.5 gigs of memory is being used and less than 50% of both cores from my Xeon dual core (overclocked to 4.07Ghz) is being used during game play.

That's likely because your monitor uses 60Hz refresh rate... the fps is staying in sync with your monitor.

I've got W7 64 and 8meg ram and it runs as well as it does on a XP, 32bit machine.

On XP all was running on max. Upgraded to W7 and I have some problems, but that because this W7 is a huge resource sucker, so I need to upgrade my hardware.. got only 2 gigs of memo

This is true. But if you have, say 8GB RAM - SH5 will use 4GB, and you still have 4GB left for the OS and other processes. So at least in theory, you could benefit from a 64 bit OS and more RAM.

I run it on Win 7 x64 with 8GB Q9650@3GHz Nvidia 9600GT 512, the performance issues I have seems to be with the GFX card. I have not tried SH5 on a 32 bit system, but other games I have show very little difference from 32 to 64 bit. FSX runs a little better, but not much. Again I think the GFX card is the bottleneck on my system, so I may not be able to see bigger benefits from going to x64.

Concur my latest build with Win 7 Pro 64 bit is a dream machine with a great OS. I thought I would never leave Win XP Pro but I am glad i did.
