Default Simultaneous Targeting

Hi Guys,

Just reading "Iron Coffins" By Herbert Werner. In it he describes being in amongst a convoy and firing 4 torpedos at 4 different targets simultaneously.. So I presume by that, that they could set up target data and save, for each individual torpedo before firing?

In game is there a way to replicate this? Or do you have to target a ship - fire - then target another ship?

No need to set up separate target data.

Once you have the angle on bow and the target's speed one ship in a
convoy, you only need to change the bearing to target. The new angle on
bow is calculated by the TDC and the new range makes almost no difference.
The speed, of course, remains the same.

If your not using a mod to add TDC dials, the way it works might not be clear through SHV's interface.

Just set up the correct AOB and speed and then let the scope give the bearing. Then just point and shoot at as many targets as you like.

I see that the AoB changes with bearing selected, so that's helpful.. Does it matter what angle you are to the convoy? Is 90 deg or a parallel track better?

I don't have SHV, so I can only speak for SH3, but yes, a 90 deg AOB is best as it gives you the biggest target and reduces duds.

It's also best not to have your torps make more than a 25 deg turn to target as the turn reduces accuracy.

Hi Gisbod,

As i did in SH3 i do it also in SH5. When i calculate all figures for one
target and fire a torpedo i take the next target which has the same
bearing as the first target. The only thing i do before firing is take
the distance of the second target. And it works.

Thanks guys

I'm using manual TDC and Darkwraiths TDC dials.. Does your advice still apply with that?

If you just change the bearing information, I guess your assuming all targets speeds are the same?

I'm really enjoying manually setting up the shot, but it's quite hard to hit targets - You've gotta be spot on with the information.. particularly speed

If they're maneuvering, then it just seems like pot luck.. Is that the same for everyone, or is there a technique I'm overlooking?

I just did this tonight, had a perfect setup where all four lead ships in a convoy were gonna get hit at the same time. I made one mistake... I fired early at the last ship (the one i was closest to) and hit it first instead of at the same time. It was the lead ship for the convoy, so as it slowed down, EVERYONE slowed down. This meant that the far ship didn't get hit since it slowed before the torpedo got to it. The third one was just barely hit.

There's a really great gif animation somewhere that shows this concept, I'll try to find it.
