Default (TEC) making your soundman more talkative

I have been trying to get my soundman to report contacts more frequently. It appears that in the stock game, the soundman will only report contacts once every 60 seconds.

looking in the "contacts.cfg", I found these two lines:

Quote:
Decay Time For Imprecise Sensor Contacts=600 ;[>0] seconds
Decay Time For Precise Sensor Contacts=60 ;[>0] seconds
Lowering the line for "precise" contacts to, say 15 seconds, appears to result in the soundman reporting contacts more frequently.
Lowering the line for "imprecise" contatcs to, say 60 seconds, also appears to result in the soundman reporting new contacts, although testing is very limited so far.

Does anyone know what these two lines represent or what they do? I searched the forums, but did not find any info on this.

This is more of a tip than a mod, but in the stock game, your soundman is not very talkative. This is governed by the lines above in the "contact.cfg", which can be found in Data/Cfg.

"imprecise" (i.e. long range) contacts are updated every 10 minutes and "precise" (ie. short/medium range) contacts are updated every 1 minute. This has the unfortunate effect that the soundman will not call out contacts that you can plainly hear yourself on the hydrophone.

By changing the time in the "imprecise" line from 600 to 60 and the "precise" line from 60 to 15, your soundman will now start calling out sound contacts on a regular basis.

If you find he talks too much, which can happen if you run into a huge convoy, set the "imprecise" line number at 120 or 180.

Hi Bilge_Rat,

You are refering when you hit ,,Folow nearest sound contact,, or at ,,Report nearest sound contact,,? I am guesing you mean he is more talktive when hit ,,,,Folow nearest sound contact,,. It is that corect?

Thanks!
