It's really just cosmetic in SH5. There's no firing delay like there was in other games from what I can tell.

yes i believe your correct the doors are just cosmetic in the stock version
but i think the DEV's had more in mind during the development stage
they added flooding ,so my guess is that you were supposed to select
tube, flood it....open doors....fire....then close doors....pump water out
then reload torpedo. i found that after i fired, then played around with
the flooding tube key, i wasn't able to reload tube...only when the door
was open would it let me reload the tube....they have it backwards....lol
so what we need is a modder that can fix this,so it works properly

The non-opening doors is part of a fix in the upcoming patch, but it's still unknown if it's simply a graphics change where the doors now LOOK open or a gameplay change where if they weren't open in the first place it'll be slower launch.

Possibly this could be done by scripting. Place another button over the Torpedo fire button via the Editor, than script it so when clicked - check if the torpedo door is open :
(a) if it is fire, (b) if its not delay by x many seconds then fire.

Still I'm no scripter so maybe not.

It's one of the fixes of the new patch...
