Default Particle effects reset after 16-19 seconds?

Is it a bug or pure bad luck on my behalf:

Every 16-19 seconds all particle effects kinda vanish and start over again.
For example: Smoke from a funnel vanishes and starts rising again until said time frame is up - only to vanish again.

Even better to see during low TC.

Cheers

Yes, I've noticed that all the funnel smoke disappears (almost) whenever the water drops appear on the screen/periscope, and start over again. Then after 10 seconds or so, after which the smoke has reappeared, more water droplets hit the camera and the smoke disappears again.

I do use a mod to make funnel smoke show up at full distance, which is broken in the stock game - I don't know if this might be the cause of the problem.

I took a series of screenshots to illustrate it, but didn't get around to posting it in the bugs thread yet. I already put a ridiculous amount of things in there - it's quite tiring. I think we should all be paid by Ubisoft for our beta-testing feedback!

SH4 was terribly glitchy, SH5 is alot more stable, but yes the particles do reset whenever the water drops happen. The water drops happen way too often for my liking, but unfortunately the effects files are locked :-(

I tried the funnel smoke mod but this reset was more distracting with the the denser smoke so had to remove it :-(

Hey, wait a minute...you mean, those drops can't be modded-out?
My plan was, to first go looking for such a mod, once I bought the game...guess I missed that bit.

SH5 is very Moddable. They've even provided some software to help do it. However, it appears that they want to keep some stuff secret from other software companies and I can't say I blame 'em. I'd loved to be proved wrong, but as far as I know, unless it's done in a Patch, there is no way to reduce/remove the water droplet effect.

How about just deleting the files of editing them to be flat
Right now shv uses these two textures for the drips/droplets

Good thinking there Flak and its worth a try although my instinicts tell me that even if you are able to get rid of the 'splash' the smoke animation loop is going to reset anyhow and the splash was actually added to make it a bit less noticable.

i like the droplets, they are immersive and adds to realism to me (i often use googles), have no problem regarding particel resets or something. It adds the feeling of overcomming sea spray.

Exactly, one cannot go out to sea and expect to not get wet every now and then. I like it too, and if ya wanna really get wet head on up the the bow and ride up there for a while.

I'm fine with the water effect, as long as it doesn't reset the smoke emitters and crew animations.

Yes and also things like this will be for the most part very system dependent. Dependent not on just how powerful a system you have, but also on how clean and clear your system is. PC maintenance is one of the most ignored aspects of PC ownership. Even the most powerful PCs can be drawn down to it's knees by adware, spyware and heck even the anti-spyware programs can be just as bad interfering with the normal operations of some programs.
And also a HD that is simply too full and not enough free space availble can cause a great many problems that appear to be related to the program your trying to run, but in reality isnt.

A heavily fragmented HD can have things not do well, and just let another silent hunter known as trojan virus get in there and nothing but a total format of it will get rid of it if it gets into enough of the system and programs.
A couple years ago I was in a nightmare that didn't end till I pulled the HD and replaced it. Somtime it's better to just let go and loose a bunch of stuff to get the thing running smooth.

Nope. Core2Duo @ 3,0 GHz with 8GB Ram - Game runs absolutely smooth.

Likewise. C2D E8400 at 3GHz, 4GB RAM, Win 7 64-bit installed only a couple of months ago, plenty of HD space. Runs smoothly too.

Disappearing smoke is not down to PC performance or PC tidiness. It's either programming related or driver related (at best, but I doubt the latter).
