Btw, how intuitive is the use of AP and HE deck gun shells?
I suppose, it makes sense that Armor Piercing shells are apt at penetrating the parts of a ship that has some armor that otherwise would be unaffected by HE shells. And I suppose that there would be larger ships with armor thick enough to negate the effect of penetration by AP shells fired off the deck gun. I have always imagined that AP shells would cause a ship a ship to sink faster, but on second thought, a High Explosive might be more damaging to a ship's hull. One thing I have wondered about, is wheter it matters if you hit a ship below the waterline or anywhere on the side of the ship, for the ship to start sinking. Else I have noticed that it is possible to hit the propeller on the ship being fired at, which would make it end up dead in the water with no speed. Not sure how realistic that possibility is. |

As far as I know U boats... at least early in the war... did NOT carry two types of ammunition for the deck gun.

It is possible that they could have had two types, in theory, because AP shells where made for the KM's 88 guns. However, after looking into it, the GWX team could only find evidence of AP shells being used.

Man the gun yourself, and have the HUD on by shift+Z, the ammo is changed by clicking on the ammo images that appear on the upper left of screen.

That isn´t that what i want to know ![]() I mean: You have, f.e. 100 rounds of HE and 100 rounds of AP ammo STANDARD. But when iam IN PORT, how can i load more HE rounds instead of AP rounds? As far as i can remember, it was possible by the same guy in the bunker who gives you torpedos and equipment....but i cannot find it anymore, in the case that i remember correctly. ![]() |

No the mechanic in port will not change your deck gun loadout. The only way to change it would be a mod.

There also seems to be no way to find out how much ammo you have left, unless you're manning the gun yourself?
There used to be a read-out in one of the status screens in SH3. Perhaps I missed it, but don't think so. |

![]() But yeah I think it's as the others have said, cause I didnt see any options for this when I was in port and specified my torpedo loudout.

I don't think you shall mix up the KM 88 mm with the LW/army 88 mm. I believe they were different types even if the shell calibre was the same. |
