REQ: Can crew be changed?

I was wondering if its possible to mod the actual crew in SH5? is there anything stopping the creation of new characters to replace crew members, so that a recuritment process could be brought back?

PS: I was just noticing how little there is to spend your renown on after the usual upgrades. Im in early 40, upgraded to the teats, and still have 10,000 renown sitting on the shelf. And i know some folks probably have way more than that - ive only sunk 300k tons..ONLY :-)
