Default Some photos of interior USS Pampanito (Balao-class)

Hey there! Last year I visited (among other places) San Fransisco and took a tour of the USS Pampanito (Balao-class) docked in the harbor.

I also took several photos of the exterior and interior and I figured you Silent Hunter 4 modders out there would perhaps enjoy seeing them for (interior) modding purposes.

Here is a link to all (59) pics I have on the subject on Flickr.

You have to excuse the quality. I used my cell-phone camera and the lighting was understandably poor.

Thanks! There are some nice shots and I think the quality is very good for a cell phone camera.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks!

I'm fairly pleased with the quality of the exterior shots but the interior ones is a bit "meh".

I'm going to be in the area in early May. Does anyone know what hours the boat is open for tours?

I'm not sure I'll get a chance to visit, but I'm going to try.

Fantastic shots you have there, I was surprised to learn that it was a cellphone camera!

I really want to visit this boat, but sadly, it's a bit far away from me. *Sigh*

If you can, dont forget to visit the "S.S Jeremiah", a Liberty Cargo ship from ww2. Its just behind the Pampanito.

The US built around 2700 of them for the wareffort during the second world war.

I didnt have the time to visit it but I wish I had.

Yeah, and across the bay is the Hornet, I believe. Sadly, I'm not in charge of the schedule for this trip, and it's not for pleasure. So it depends on what time the conference runs each day.

The boss insists we're driving across the Golden Gate, though. If I don't make it to the Pampanito, I'll just have to go back to the Cavalla.

If you can sweet talk the boss into it, the USS Iowa is in the mothball fleet (viewable to the NE as you cross the Benicia/Martinez bridge, hwy680). And, the Victory Ship SS Red Oak is in Richmond (south on Canal Blvd off of hwy580).

And, yes, the USS Hornet is in Alameda.

Speaking of trips I also took a trip to New York and visited the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum
featuring the ww2 carrier "Intrepid" and the submarine U.S.S Growler. (made 1954)

For those other history buffs out there you can check out my pics from there here:

U.S.S Growler

U.S.S Intrepid

The Intrepid is post-war modified though so its not in original configuration as it was during the war.
Enjoy!
