Default The real reason the Uboat War Failed DRM

New information from recently opened archives have uncovered a shocking secret from WWII. Untimately it was not the improved convoy tactics, air cover or escort carriers that defeated the Uboat Mennace but a failure in an ultra secret Uboat communcation device the "DRM". In Mid 1943 the allies picked up an odd radio transmission eminating from France into the North Atlantic. British and American analysts decrpted the signal and devised a way to jam it. Suddenly Uboat lossed soared. Included in an interview with a Uboat POW from May 1943 who described what happened just before his UBoat was sunk.

"We were transitting the Bay of Biscay when the radio opperator burst into the conning tower with an ashen face. "Herr Kapitan! I have disasterous news, the DRM Link has failed!" The Kapitans face immediately took on an look of extreem worry. Suddenly the sounds of the Uboat began to change, the engines shut down and the slow hiss of the balast tanks blowing filled the sub. In seconds we were on an uncotrolled rise to the surface. As we surfaced we were soon attacked by an American B-24 and sunk"

The truth is now told...... :-)

In a certain way you are right.

All the intense radio traffic needed by the wolfpacks was the weak link that allies exploited. Even when Enigma messages couldn't be deciphered on time (periodic change of the wheelsets, 4th rotor installed and used) high frequency direction finding was still possible.
