Default Lost at sea

So I went for the British Supplies mission and set out, and decided to cut south of Scapa Flow to save time and diesel. My watch officer says he can see smoke on the horizon, but I see nothing and ignore him, for then to go below-deck and up time compression, taking part of the run at periscope depth to see if there are hostiles near me.

I surface the boat, and all of a sudden I get damage reports, and when I check the "Sub-Systems" screen, my hull integrity is down to 47%. What happened? Did I hit a mine? I run for the ladder, and as I climb I hear explosions or gunfire... and when I'm almost at the hatch, I see a British flag above me.

I reach the top of the conning tower just in time to see a destroyer go past the boat at flank speed, as damage reports flood in... then the screen goes black.

Not too much of an achievement. No objectives completed save from the tutorial mission, only halfway though Coastal Waters with 25 000 tonnes sunk (mostly owing to me being inexperienced with the new TDC system)... Guess I'll just have to Be more aggressive! (I also had a tendency to ignore targets not in my mission area).

Time compression can be deadly.

next time your watch officer tells you there's smoke on the horizon, don't ignore him...

This is not new I have had the same issue in previous titles. Nothing like seeing the looming ship suddenly appear in front of you while chugging along at flank

I didn't ignore ignore him, I did check the horizon and looked for contacts on the map. I figured that okay, they may be warships far away, but I'll be fine. I was used to DD's being blind and dumb as hell, and didn't figure that upping realism would make them that dangerous.

It wasent the realisim it was the time compression.

There are a dozen or so threads around about sudden death syndrome.

I doubt you were out foxed by the Ai as by the many reports its rather thick or just blind. That’s why I hate what I’m reading, if I’m killed I want to know that it was a poor move or decision on my side and great move on the enemy with its response.

I’d not trust the Game at all. Loved the guy blowing up the CV with one shot on the other thread. Doubt it would happen IRL back in the war.

Does that super mod for SHIII improve the Ai response as I’m hopping the Mods can correct the game by the end of the year. I plan a SHV Xmas……

The problem, far as I can tell, is just as much that your crew very inconsistently report contacts and sightings. I'm working on the River Mayhem mission at the moment, and it's far from a given that you get the "Contact, freighter, bearing this, range that" or "Ship sighted at bearing this, range that" messages when they see something. Just as often the time compression drops to 32 with no explanation at all.

Particularly irritating when you have map contacts disabled, and the "sonar guy" doesn't have the ability to give you a Bearing to Nearest Merchant. What am I supposed to do, man the hydrophone myself every time there's a new contact (not that I can get the damned thing to turn).

Used TC going south of Scapa Flow very brave that is one place you tend to find DD's. Only ever came though there once and no DD about.
