Default Strike Strike Strike!

I was due to sign on today. However because of this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8553262.stm I was told not to bother. I rang my local jobcentre and was informed that today and tomorrow the jobcentre would be closed and that I should come back in two weeks and in the mean time I'll be paid as usual.
I feel a little put out as I was hoping to get some more information on volunteering in my local area, but I can see the principal at work - I've been on the wrong end of a badly managed redundancy.
I suppose it was only a matter of time before there'd be more widespread strike action this year. The singular lack of anything resembling decent work (that I'm not 'over qualified for' or that will pay me enough to actually support myself) is not surprising.

Due to my now single status I cannot afford to take the sort of temp or reduced hours/salary jobs I could have when I was living with my ex, when we shared the outgoings; it was easier all round. Now when I look at it, my total outgoings for bills top £500 - £650 pcm this does not include food. The current minimum wage (or even the last job I did @ £6.00 per hour), after tax will leave me short every month as it totals about £550.00.

I guess even those giving out the handouts are feeling the pressure. Sign of the times...
