All of the above. The color the ocean looks like is dependent upon the time of day, cloud cover, etc.

Also, they will also look very different from machine to machine, depending on gamma, contrast, digitial vibrance settings, etc.

They're all wrong. There was less pollution 65 years ago.

totally.

The actual stock sea colour that we've seen in pre-release screenshots is fine, in my opinion. Making it a bit darker should fit the theater of operations perfectly.

I visited the website W_Clear linked and as far as I could read between the lines, the photos were taken from fleets travelling from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, Japan and so on. Some were from the Mediterranean Sea. Only one group was practicing off the US East coast and the water looks like this:

Here's some other:

IMO SH5's water looks almost like this.

Perhaps a clever camera lens trick could simulate the changes in environment colors?

I imagine that the North Sea should look like this:

Or like this. The bright background/sky makes for the bright ocean (reflected I am sure).

Something i observed while at work today . There was a ship about a kilometre away and there was light rain . Well it looked like the ship was in light fog so i guess light fog should imitate light rain .

Your photos answered your own question, the Atlantic is not 'one colour' It can be any number of colours depending on the time day, light & weather, the angle you veiw it from etc etc, plus who know if those photos have had their contrast and saturation 'touched up'

Imho people obsess over the colour far too much.

As long as it doesn't look light the brisk clear water of a coral atoll, I'm pretty much fine with it.

From the screenshots I've seen so far it also has an acceptable amount of clarity, too. But it is almost a bit too transparent, even in clear waters you hardly ever see the sub-surface part of a ship from above because of foam and shadows and so on.
