Default Connecticut power plant explosion

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8503142.stm

Sounds nasty, hope there's not many casualties and any subsimmers in the area are safe.

In the German news they said that the local hospital said that there are at least 50 dead.
Let's hope that was just a hoax statement from some wannabe journalist.

My father lives in Portland on the other side of the river from Middletown. He said it shook the whole house. Apparently, people heard the explosion all the way to Mystic.
When it happened, a bunch of my friends from Meriden were posting "What the hell was that noise ?" on their Facebook pages.

The German media have just pulled back the story of the 50 killed. So maybe it wasn't that horrific after all. But let's see how this develops.

Death toll now stands at five, the explosion was heard and felt 30 miles away. A rescue operation is underway, there are reports of people trapped under the plant building, but it's sketchy at best. No-one knows yet how many people were in the plant at the time, on a usual day it would be 100-200, but most had been evacuated as they've been purging gas lines for most of the night.

Just caught a piece about it here in Iowa on the local news. They said five dead and 12 injured. I hope those figures stand.

Maybe they mixed the deaths with total number of people that were at the plant when it happened. Atleast our news said there were 50 people there when it went tits-up.

Same here on the UK news.

Thank God the numbers are much lower.
