Default SHIV is getting boring.

Is there any mod that changes the US campaigns so it's more than "Deploy to Luzon and engage enemy merchant shipping"?

You don't necessarily have to go to Luzon, but the primary job of any submarine will always be killing enemy shipping. The odd warships, when you're lucky. It's not like you can go up on land and engage the Japanese Imperial Army.

This version for stock:

Stock (SH4 v15) RSRDC

Current Version

RSRDC_SH15_v550
RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1

There are other links depending on if you are playing TMO or RFB, but all the links are in the first page of this post:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=123467

RSRD is also much better, as the convoys zig zag (sort of), so when you are setting up an attack, it's perfectly possibly for your target to spoil your setup, by turning towards you and then you find you are going to be across his track before he closes to firing raneg and you have to scramble for a stern shot. Sometimes he will zig away and spoil your set up too.

Altogether, not boring (compared to stock).

There's a flotilla in RSRDC which will give you many more special missions than other ones (can't remember which one).

things do get boring sometimes, but nothing keeps you away from making sidesteps while on a mission.

If you're playing stock, I got bored in a few weeks. Playing TMO with RSRD...been playing for a long time and seldom bored. Still, even with stock, seems you got missions all over.

Learn some history and partake of all the large battles, think some are in stock, but all well scripted with RSRD.

With TMO and RSRD, the graphics improve 100%, sound is better, more equipment, and game is much harder, no more sinking the entire jap fleet with your deck gun.

Default Wondered About This

Wondered about this, & why have never bought SH4 while being a big fan of SH2 & SH3. Since Imperial Japan did not have either reliable radar or sonar being on a US submarine was a pretty safe place to be during WWII as compared to their German Uboat counterparts whom faced near certain death. What is there to do but drive up to a Japanese merchant convoy, unload your torpedoes from an amazing ten tubes, & leave running silent & deep.
Though lately have been getting into Japanese culture, & thinking of offering them statehood so I may get this sim anyway for experiencing its first hand historical account of the Japanese navy, & its merchant marines.

Try surviving a career starting in an S-Boat in Manila at the start of the war.

RFB and RSRDC or TMO with RSRDC. FOTRS is an interesting mod as well - bigger variety of targets and the escorts are very difficult to shake once they have you in their sights.

Default TMO is not your regular stock

Manock,

Look, I got say that I got pretty bored with the stock SH4 for a long time. Had played a little bit, and since it does not have the same features of SHIII, I deleted it.

But, reading through the forums, I saw lots of people talking about TMO and how good it was. I decided to give it a chance and I got say that I'm not dissapointed at all.

TMO makes your stock game a totally different game. More features and better enemy AI. If you try just driving to a japanese convoy and unloading...you will have serious problems. Because of that, my interest on SH4 has picked up again so much, that I will pass SH5 and wait for, hopefully, another Silent Hunter with Fleet Boats in it.

Another way to not be bored is to play at 100% realism.
You are entering another dimension ...

I will bet a case of beer that he'll be screaming and whining for a month if he plays TMO. Somebody saved a screen shot of a TMO depth charge filling the screen of his periscope, which is a greeting from ducimus. My advice... load TMO 1.9, stay in port, watch the sentries walk off the pier and walk on the water. You will live longer.
