I was wondering how long we will have to wait till the modders (God Bless Them) lick and kick this game in to a playable Sim ?.
I know this is like asking "how long is a piece of string", but any insight would be helpful. ( i wont hold you down to an exact day) ![]() |

Well, simpler mods might start coming up within a few weeks, maybe a month of initial release, but it will depend on the amount of people that play SH5 and have the knowledge to do mods. More complex mods, may take from a few months, to a few years.

If 85% of players have said that they won't buy SHV, we can assume
that 85% of modders won't be modding for it. I wouldn't hold your breath for any big modding efforts any time soon. You had better hope the stock game is good enough.

The first mods will be out a few days after release. They will be the easy ones - menu text changes, AI tweaks, minor graphical changes. Then in the next two to three weeks after that will come some of the more in-depth mods. New skins, new units, maybe some campaign layer changes. In the next two to three months, someone will get the idea to come up with a collection of their favorite mods, made to work with each other, making the first super-mod. It will only get better from there.

The big collections that stick around for a long time will form once the game is stable, with no more patches disturbing the released mods. So, it will be a while before really amazing things happen, possibly years down the road things that were declared to be impossible will even be solved. But the journey and the wait for that big mod in the future can still be fun. And you can even get in on it. You've got time to learn to mod, and a desire for the best game. Get to work. |

Exactly. The serious work never begins until after the last official patch is released, and the game has been consolidated. Doesn't mean anything done before is wasted of course, but it's when modders really let their hair down knowing that they don't have to continually rework their work. I remember having these exact discussions with Beery (RuB) back in SH3 days. Likewise, I didn't really "explore" SH3Cmdr until the last patch was well bedded down.
And this time, modders have to consider the possibility that Ubisoft will issue add-ons. I suspect modders may be a bit more reluctant to add new U-boats (if indeed they can) or extend the campaign if there's murmurs that Ubisoft will do it for them "a few months down the track". No-one likes seeing their hard work wasted, especially when it takes so long to do it! |

Other than the curious who buy early I wonder if most will wait until the game stabilizes with patches then buy and mod.
I can't see any reason they should bust butt just to have to do it over. Our Modders do it right the first time. ![]() |

![]() I'll try to get this game shortly after it comes out. I'm set to buy it, be it junk or whatever. It'll be the first in the Silent Hunter series I will buy as a modder and not as a player (it spreads, I was working on a mod for STALKER not too long ago) I noticed that they said there will be similarities in the code, I could see myself converting the Bismarck into a playable ship lickety-split.

I will get the game what ever, (I'm a SH junkie), With all this talk about the game being more arcade like, than sim like, i was just wondering how long the modders would take to turn in to what it was meant to be.
I'm not so much bothered about the visual stuff, but i like the realism, real crush depths, real damage, that type of thing, realism over arcade for me every time. razark, i take your point about making mods myself, if i don't give it a go, i will never know, so thanks for that, don't expect a super mod though, lol. We don't have too long to wait, to see if our hopes, or fears, were justified. Personally, i cant wait. Just upgraded the PC so I'm ready to go. |

another one(yes,i know, that's fast but i have lots of questions):
ubisoft says, quote; "What if Ubisoft decides not run these online services in the future? Will my game stop working? If any service is stopped, we will create a patch for the game so that the core game play will not be affected." so,wouldn't it be possible to create that mod in the community? ![]() |

Huh?? Is that by any chance a syntax mixture of french and english?
![]() For those who don't understand the joke, "seventy five" in french is said "sixty fifteen" (soixante-quinze) because after the 69, they just start adding ten-sized (10,20,30...) numbers to the 60, which, by the way, I've never known why their language does that. |
