Okay, so I have a few questions as I getting into playing this beast.
1. I have the gold version which has a 5MB user manual that is a good paper weight. Did the original have a better manual? Where can i find it? 2. I am looking for some data on the Mark 14 and Mark 23 torpedoes, manual has zero...... CORRECTION: Did some searching and I believe I found my answers! 3. I was attempting to load my German sub with torpedoes in port and boy was it a chore. It SHIII you could click on the torp you wanted and drag it to a torpedo tube regardless if it was full and not. So far I am finding that I have to unload the torp tube and then put the torp I want in there. Is there a better way? 4. Last one for now. In SH3 when you had a target locked in the periscope and you had the recognition manual open, you could click on the name of the ship on the notepad and it would open the recognition manual to the ship you had locked. Anyway to this in SH4. Thank you for any and all help fellow sailors ![]() |

4. SH4 has removed the in-between 'Weapons Officer Assistance' function. Either you have full manual targeting and have to do it yourself, or you have easy 'Auto Targeting' and it's all done for you once you lock on.

Actually in TMO and my TMOkeys mods there is a "will somebody identify that target for me?" function. TMO works off the button bar, TMOkeys uses shift-i.
Also, there is an estimate target speed and course button in the speed section of the TDC input screen. It's prone to error if your observations are in error. You need two stadimeter observations of range and bearing taken at least ten seconds apart, then press the button. Unlike SH3, the answer is entirely dependent on your observational work. Good luck with that! ![]() In all, SH4 went more for realism over automatic supply of target information.

Thank you all for the information. I think I was spoiled in SH3 by clicking on the ship name and getting the ship to show right away on the recog manual. It helped me get a keel depth so I could set my torps depth faster. Alas, I will have to suck it up and do it the real way. But first, a pint for courage.....a pint for patience....a pint for.....

What's nice about TMO, just lock the ship and click on the ID icon and it will show the ship name in a few seconds....Would be nice to open the book for keep depth, but you learn the ships over time, not to mention the M14's run low until mid 43, so doesn't much matter anyway for keel shots early war.
