Default Major technical SNAFUS with new GWX 3 install...

Hello all,

First of all, forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong place...

It's been a while since I've been on the forums, but it's good to be back.

I just discovered GWX 3 and I was very excited to download it and try it since I recently upgraded my computer. I stopped playing SH3 about a year ago because my hardware wasn't quite up to it, but since getting more RAM I was eager to try it again.

I installed GWX 3 over a clean, upgraded install of SH3 v1.4b. I started playing and it was great...just like old times. Then...about 10 minutes in...I got the infamous Blue Screen Of Death. Ouch. Thinking it was a fluke, I rebooted and tried again. Same deal. I've discovered that the problem is likely due to my video driver (ATI Radeon Mobile x300) and I'm looking into how I can fix this. In the meantime, I wanted to try to uninstall everything and try the game out on the earlier GWX 2. The problem is that I can't seem to completely uninstall GWX 3, and thus I can't upgrade the basic SH3 to v1.4b because it's already been modified. There doesn't seem to be an uninstall program included with GWX 3, and when I uninstall SH3 and then reinstall it, the directories are full of GWX 3 stuff...which means it never really left.

1.) Does anybody know how to definitively wipe out GWX 3 to start over?

2.) Can I still get GWX 2.1 somewhere?

3.) Has anybody else already had this problem and fixed it (BSOD in GWX 3?)

Thanks friends.

Check for a file SH3 in "my documents".
Do a search under file folders for silent hunter III.
Stuff does get left behind.

1.) Insert your game disc and use the 'uninstall' option.

Delete the SH3 file in C\MyDocs and use a registry cleaner such as regvac, there is a free trial version here:

http://www.superwin.com/fregvac.htm

Comprehensive instructions are available from the GWX website (click on my sig)

2.) See the link below my sig.

3.) BSOD can have many causes....are you sure your RAM is compatable?

Default Win Install Clean-up

I've found every once in a while , the uninstall of SH III fails . I guess do to the modding , so I resort to a free program from Microsoft call Win Install Clean-up and it repairs what I broke modding ( i guess i messed something up ) . But anyway its works for me , 100% of the time . It works for other programs that won't uninstall nether .
