Well, I've been playing Silent Hunter 3 for a while now and I've been wondering if I should buy SH4. It's only $10-15, so that seems like a good deal. But first, I've just got a few questions.
1. What's the difference between Silent Hunter 4 and the version with the U-boat mod? What does the 1.5 patch do that's included with UBM? 2. I've been reading some reviews about it, and they talked about problems with bugs and such. Since most of those reviews were in 2007, how has the situation changed over time? Is SH4 still bug-ridden? During all this time I've focused on SH3 so I've payed less attention to Silent Hunter 4. |

Take it from someone who let SH4 collect dust for the last 2 years and went back to SH3 with GWX....with 1.5 it is very enjoyable. Yes there are still some bugs, but nothing show stopping.
Couple that with the mods (if Uboats are your thing...I hear Operation Monsoon is awesome) and you have a good package to tide you over until SH5. |

Running SHIV with mods like TMO / RFB / RSRD make it shine.
![]() Definitely worth it for the bargain bin price. (Plus you're in the Pacific with all those Japanese fleet carriers and battleships, good stuff!) |

Thanks for all the replies, just keep 'em coming. I certainly have good faith in this game, and I can't really go wrong out of the bargain bin.

I bought SH3 and after playing it for a couple weeks i bought SH4 and have not regreted it yet! I have 3 SH4 Installs right now, 1 is stock, 1 has the OM Mod so i can have all the U-Boats and Missions and Campaigns and 1 is my custom install where i am basicly taking parts of other mods that i like and tweaking the game into my own version of SH4.
If you liked SH3, I think you'll love SH4. I have wanted a Pacific Sub Sim to replace SH1 for years. I didn't care for SH2 because of the way the missions were scripted and only a few months ago I decided to try SH3 and then SH4. You really can't go wrong buying SH4, but make sure you get the U-Boat expansion pack, the mods available to version 1.5 make it well worth it. |

If you played SH3 w/GWX and jump to SH4, give SH4 some time. Don't judge it after only one or two tries. It has a totally different feel. Like someone said above, you need to be a fan of Pacific fleet boats to really enjoy it. I've played it on and off since August '09 and am still getting a feel for what I like and dislike about it.
Skip stock and load up some of the super mods out there. I am currently running RFB 1.52/RSRD along with a couple of minor mods. I've tried TMO 1.7 with RSRD as well. Both RFB and TMO are excellent mods. I'm not sure which one I like best yet. In the short time I've played SH4, it has never made me want to uninstall and shelve SH3 though. Both just feel different and there are pros and cons to both and both are excellent games. I will definitely keep playing both games as the mood suits. ![]()

It's an aweosme game with an amazing amount of cool mods. I personally love the pacific side of the submarine war and could not be happier.
I play TMO 1.7 with a bunch of cool graphics mods added...love this game! |
