Default Can't load my save after game crashed

Hello after a long break.

Normally my saves work fine, but if I make a save AND my game is not closed properly (it crashes instead), I can't open this save - I can still open all the saves I made in any previous sessions though.

I suppose there is some information written into save files upon exiting the game, and I tried to find what kind of info and where, but I failed. I noticed that SH3 Commander, that normally displays a "patrol grid" value of last assignement when on patrol, displays 'NULL' after my game crashes, however it seems in my save files this information is still present. Somehow however SH3 Commander refuses to read it.

When I say the saves won't load I mean they load for longer than usually, then I see the "Not so long ago" words, then I crash (CTD before I see the sub interior). Windows application error log says:

I'm getting really desperate. I just abandoned the current patrol after I tried to go through it normal way 3 times already. It seems after a certain point in ching a certain spot ontime or after rea the map or after encountering a certain convoy (don't know) my saves get corrupted no matter how many I do, in different places/time/state.

I hope this won't occur again on the next patrol. I'll have to quit playing if it does, as it takes whole the pleasure away.

Please help if you have any tips/ideas.

I have the same problem, haven't found a solution either.

I keep at least two saves for this reason. One thing I noticed is that crashes seem more frequent if things are busy; I don't save immediately after giving orders or after something sinks or anything of the kind... preferably only on the open sea when there's nobody in sight. However, I haven't been able to narrow this down and I might be dead wrong.

Yeah, definitely try not to save within 32 kilometers of any ships if you can help it (Try to do a quick soundsweep before saving), and I think within 50 kilometers of land. Saving while submerged is also a big no-no.\

Also, one tip I've heard is to overwrite your save: I.e., make a save called 'Patrol xx' and then make another save right after also called 'Patrol xx.' (Or I think that's how it should go) I don't know if that really has any effect, but since I started doing that, I haven't had a corrupted save. (Not that I had very many bad saves before that though )

I know this doesn't really help with your current Lost Patrol, but maybe for future reference?

Thanks for tips. Of course I've been following these rules (no land, no ships and so on) for years now, and have almost none problems with corrupted saves, and recently this started. I hope on my current patrol this won't happen again.

there MUST be a way to repair a corrupt save. But... how?

When you can't see your save files after loading a game ie: the appearance is that of a brand new install, go to your saved game folder in C/MyDocs and you will see them in the folder.

Add an 'x' to the name of your last save and reboot the game. You should now see your saves again ingame.

You can remove the 'x' later if you so wish.

So far I havn't heard of anyone succesfully repairing a corrupted save.

I wish you luck, I really do, but me thinks your going to have to start you patrol over.
