Default Bah...destroyers

Here I am, sailing 270 km outside bergen in my brand new XXI. After a diving drill I notice that my battery does not recharge, so I decide to make a short patroll.

A few minutes later I encouter a task force containing a illustrious carrier. One hit was enough to destroy its command centre, so the carrier is now sitting idle.

But I cannnot lose the 5 or 6 destroyers. To make it worse: two compartments of my sub are badly damaged and I have lost my decoy launcher, radio and some other stuff. I am already at 260m deep and running silent (<100rpm). And to make this scenarion even more beautifull: the sea is nice and calm. I really, really hate destroyers.

As far as I can see I have 3 options:
-go to pd and fire a salvo containing zaunkoning and LUT
-see I have can make it back to Bergen submerged (I am about 270 km away and still have more then 75% of my battery.

edit:
I did check if my propulsion was on recharge mode,

I've never seen a carrier. Therefore, I couldn't possibly let that thing go and live with myself afterwards. I'd take my time reloading at depth, sneak up to PD and launch a spread of two or three fish. You can then creep away (very slowly) at ahead slow until the tin cans give up on you. But, that's me.

Of course, after sinking the flattop I'd probably find a way to get my shiny Type XXI depth charged to the bottom. At least I could try to snag the 3rd arrester wire on the carrier's deck with my rudder for style points.

Frustrating situation, though...

If you are crazy enough and want to risk yourself to Bergen, go to 15 meters and raise snorkel, on propulsion mode set to normal mode, this way you can get 20 knots using diesel engines just prey that your snorkel doesn't get hit while you are using it or you'll have to play cat & mouse for a long time , also what year is?

That sucks. In late war I find it very hard to evade destroyers. Their sonar equipment has improved alot. But if you are 260 m below in a ultra fast type XXI, it shouldn't be hard to evade their attacks. I once tried to evade long enough for them to empty their depth charges, but it was a very time consuming process.

Other than that, you could try to fire some accustic torpedoes at them but since the XXI don't have any torpedo tubes in its a**, I find it very hard to do so. Therefore I don't use the XXI, even if I can afford it. My mega U-boat feeling is in a VII. Late war I use the VII/41 because it can perform deeper dives than an ordinary type VII.

In a XXI, be aggresive! I hate destroyers too! That's why it's so damn satisfying when you break one's back! I'm sure this isn't any helpfull at all but good luck anyway

Soni from Bergen, Norway.

I'd just slip up and under the carrier myself and plot a new course from there and try to slip away.

Assuming the Type XXI was equipped with sonar, I would locate the damaged carrier, come up to the minimum firing depth, (I believe it's 45-60 meters or so) and fire off a salvo. If you have any acoustics I'd try blindfiring them as well while at firing depth, but that's just me.

However, I dunno if you have sonar, as you say it's a brand new XXI, and I don't know what year you're in. And if your radio room is damaged, it's probable that the sonar's out as well. In that case just go by the hydrophones, unless the carrier's dead in the water.

After all that/if that fails, then I'd try to make my escape. Hey, if you're going to go anyways, might as well take something big with you.

6 destroyers only?

Finish them off in PD.

XXI comes with extra everything, coatings excluded. with coatings ~23500renown. you spend that to shoot down that carrier, and then dive deep and get away with the creep engines

You always can hide under the carrier or just sink the DDs.
Wait till one passes over you and when it goes further than 300m, usually it takes its turn. Fire a fast going eel a few meters ahead of it and voila!
You got yourself a nice 2-piece puzzle featuring a ship!

Well I made it back home. After another couple of hours the destroyers decided it was time to go home.

This gave me plenty of time to fire some eels on the stationary carrier and sink it.

I was considering attacking the destroyers, but since I play DiD, I didn't want to risk it. When I am at pd attacking one of the destroyers, there is a high possibilty that one of the remaining five destroyers is very close by as well.

But I got one question remaining: As said my sub was damaged (sonar, rader, snorkel etc...). When looking at the damage screen some compartments where showing red. So I expected to have a very low hull integrity. I was very suprised to find out that my hi was 95% on return. So why did the damaged compartments show up red when there was no 'real' damage?

Because the equipment housed within it was destroyed.
