Default Name of ship sunk

I thought I did see it but I guess that was during the training missions.
I am not sure what to do so I can see actual names of ships that I have sunk on my log.
Is that part of a Mod that I have to activate?
And if yes, can I activate this in the middle of a mission or career?

Thank you!!

SH3 Commander is the thing you want, it adds real ship names to it's own generated personnel files, along with cargo, crew and casualties.

Sailor Steve releases regular updates to the ship names to go along with SH3 Commander.

Actually, they also appear within SH3 too...

You need to use Sailor Steve's ship names mod that adds a file to SH3Cmdr to allow the additional detail to be displayed.

Not correct. You need no more than SH3Cmdr R3.2. SS's ship names mod merely adds more ship names (and perhaps classes) to the list, nothing else (I say merely, but that's an understatement knowing how much work and effort SS has put into his list over the years).

The above log entries were generated through SH3Cmdr R3.2 and the included Patrol Log Editor. The nationalities were entered after I updated the Personnel File (ie added ship names), based on the log I kept while playing the patrol.

That's really cool. Is there a way add your own text to the log in-game or is it only possible afterwards?

It would be a really nice touch if you were able to manually type entries into the log mid patrol that would then save to the end of patrol output, but alas, it's not been done (yet).

The only way you can add detail as shown in the above screenshots is to add it after the patrol via SH3Commanders' log editor. I don't tend to use it myself but seeing the addition of damaged ship notifications in the above shots I'm inclined to do the same from now on, it takes away some of the bitter taste of having to leave a half sunk ship behind due to no ammo or surface threats.

And bear in mind that I am not as serious about logging events as others here are - the above is a quick example from my last patrol (where I stupidly used TC when getting into position to finish off the crippled ship, and didn't turn it off quick enough); I've been emailed examples from users that are very detailed and really demonstrate the power the Kaleun has through the Patrol Log feature.
