Default Ghost taskforces GWX?

I keep getting Task force reports coming out of Liverpool and heading NW up around Ireland.

4 Times I have set up ambush in the narrowest straights between NE Ireland and England.

Task force last sighting 60 miles out heading straight for me perfect weather then........nothing! They vanish time and time again. No visuals, No hydrophone.....nothing.

Are the Contact reports in GWX all valid? If so than where can an entire Task Force hide in such a narrow stretch? Unless they hug the northernmost shore line I cant see them slipping past me four times.

And always right before I make contact is the last time they get reported.

A lot of those 'task forces' are composed of 4 Torpedo boats only. They circumnavigate the English coast regularly.

They can be handy for following up around SE Scotland as their way points sometimes brings them close to the coast, and by shadowing them, one can sometimes penetrate the coastal minefields safely.

Otherwise, they're not worth going after.

Funny you should mention that. I keep trying to hunt down those task forces early war, and never seem to catch them. I find myself waiting at the ambush point quite regularly wondering 'where is it then? Should be here by now'.

The above post might explain it Though, you are not alone OP. I gave up looking for them.

In SH3 any group of military vessels are listed as being a 'task force.'

We added period specific randomly spawning coastal traffic with logical origination and termination locations, both civillian and naval to GWX... but there was no way to change the nature of their contact identification.

You either get "Task Force," "Convoy," or single merchant contacts.
