Default Soccer moms, hockey moms.. ok But..

Helicopter moms? Not what you'd think on the first guess, probably. But IMHO very scary and probably not really good for the kids either.

I see nothing rong with it... I think that if more mothers and fathers were like that than people wouldnt ******* up as much, and screw up there lifes by makeing decisions that there parents could have stopped...

ex... little billy goes to collage... runs his credit card account up by spending a s*** load of money... and gets in trouble for not paying it back...

if his mother/father was paying attention to what billy was doing, they could have interfered and saved billys a**...

Alot of kids even at collage age are not mature enough to take care of there own life. most still think its just a big joke...

(edit, well maby to this womans extent it is...)

So, you have no problem with your parents intruding into your life when you are an adult? Keeping an eye on your kid/offspring is somewhat different then the woman in the story. In this particular case its almost total control.
This has nothing to do with running up your credit card bills. Those people are control freaks.

Sorry, but if my parents would have told me: Hand over your password to your email, Facebook, My Space, etc accounts when I was no longer living with them, or was old enough to take care of my own, and trying to control who I meet or where I go, I would have had some serious talk with them.

<From a parents perspective>

I really don't see what good this would do the child in the long run. Sure, always be at hand to give advice, guidance and support if needed, but in the long run the child has to find they're own way in the learning curve of life.

That is just wrong. I am no fan of "hands off" parenting but the Mom in the story has some serious issues. You cannot control your kids to that extent!

The only way to learn life experience is falling down on your face, getting up just to fall on your face again, getting up.....etc.

Sure, parents should give their kids pointers on what to do/not to do but being overbearing like this will only create weak human being used to being led hand in hand through life.

IMO person like that has snowball-in-hell's chance of surviving the real world.

yes, this mother has taken it to far, but I still think that a parent should be in there childs life. once they get married, and have a life of there own, backoff, but when the person in collage, and still not an *adult* they should pay attention to them, make sure there not going to screw there life up.

I know lots of kids whos parents arnt into what there doing... and now they do drugs... and other things they shouldnt... if there parents had been into there life they more than likely wouldnt be...

Yeesh. Times sure have changed from when I was young. When I was little, and wanted to explore the tunnels of my town's underground water drainage system with my friends, my dad pretty much said "Have fun !" and handed me a couple flashlights.
It seems nowadays, either you can't trust kids as far as you can throw them.
That being said, that woman has some SERIOUS issues. She strikes me as the kind of person who's going to start buying baby clothes to hoard and cry over in the future. Seriously. What is she going to do once her kids decide that mom is a kook and rebel ? She needs therapy. A LOT of it.

By the time I was 10 I thought my sole purpose in life was to be a maid/butler/cook/janitor/gardener for my parents. I asked my dad for an allowance for everything I did and he said "You already have an allowance, I'm allowing you to live to see tomorrow".

I feel sorry for any women those boys marry. How would you like to have that for a mother-in-law?

When I first read the topic title I thought it was about a new school where they teach kids how to fly helicopters, which would be awesome.

Also my parents basically left me alone to do whatever I wanted most of the time, I'm pretty sure I could of done cocaine off the kitchen table as my mom watched TV... I always had to impose my own rules on myself.

So why don't any of you think the same as TF...."I see nothing rong with "it and "yes, this mother has taken it to far"?

Nobody want to spin a coin then?

My guess is: TF didn't really read the story or watched the movie the first time around.

Lazy maybe?

Well, I also could have posted more info in the OP, but I decided against it, and have people discover for themself what a "Helicopter Mom" is, if they are interested that is, of course.
