The Shoho, like a lot of Japanese light carriers, didn't have an island structure. She was conned from a bridge just below the forward flight deck where the windows are.

I've always considered Shoho and similar designs as a little odd.

The link below is actually to models but if you click on the relevant pictures the information can be of some interest:

When launched, she was intended to be a high speed oiler, but instead she completed as the submarine depot ship Tsurugizaki . She was designed for easy conversion to an aircraft carrier, and was taken in hand in Jan 1941 for that purpose.

Unless the actual photos of Shoho are wrong there are inaccuracies in this model (as nice as it certainly looks)
The Bridge should be further aft behind the second (third?) deck support pillars and the bow should have a different flare almost identical to Jap cruisers.

Is it possible the later modified sister, Zuiho is represented in this model??? (Note, below line drawing of Zuiho is from 1941 and perhaps the bridge was later moved forward??)
Also notice the various mast/antennas
Shoho was sunk shortly after the photo was taken I am referring to so it could not have been altered to match the above model screen

These small carriers were conversions from submarine support ships and Shoho was the infamous "Scratch one flat top" of the battle of Coral Sea.
It was first reported as the non existing Ryukaku (third of the 2 Shokaku class fleet carrier) but in fact was the small support carrier Shoho sunk and boy did she get creamed being hit by 11 bombs and seven torpedoes.
