Default Adding bases for refuelling only?

Is it possible to add bases where only refuelling is possible, rather than full facilities such as Manila, Soerabaja and Fremantle? I'm thinking of places such as Darwin, which undoubtedly would have been available for refuelling should the need have occurred. Also places such as Tarakan and Balikpapan, which were used as refuelling stations by the RNethN pre-war and could have used by the USN until the Japanese occupied them.
I recently lost a lot of fuel to a Japanese attack during an otherwise quite successful campaign patrol and the nearest Allied port was Darwin, which I just managed to reach........ but since refuelling is not possible there, I had to replay the mission, losing all kills- hence my question.

Yes!
For the stock game:

Set up a working MOD folder

Modname (folder)
Data (folder)
Campaigns (folder) NOTE the S on the end of Campaigns
Campaign (folder)

Now go to your SH4 location to Data/Campaigns/Campaign and copy "USNavalBases.mis" to the Campaign folder you just made above.

Open mission Editor. Open "Land Units Layer" and select USNavalBases.mis from your copy not from the originals. On the right select land/roster/American/NB Naval Base. Drag and drop it where you want, a window opens, at the bottom give it a name. Check the available dates so it appears or disappears when you want it to. Depending on captured positions. Darwin would be available all the time but you may want to change dates for the others you mentioned. Click Accept. Position accurately by zooming in and deselect the 'hand' in the toolbar so you can move the base and not the map.
Select Save Land Units Layer and save in your created folders overwriting the USNavalBAses.mis and enable like any other MOD. This will allow you to refuel and rearm but not dock at this base. This is not problem for 'stock' game but if you are using major MODS, read note.

NOTE: If you enable your MOD after a Major mod it will change the USNavalBases.mis that may be used by the other major mods. To get around this you could use the USNavalBases.mis from the major MOD and add the new base to that file for your own use, but if you want to distribute it you should ask the maker of the MOD for permission before doing this.

Is it possible to have a dock for refueling without rearming?

Not that I know of. When you use this it refuels/rearms/and repairs all except hull damage. It also heals and rests your crew.
Also this base does not add a "dock" only an invisible 'base'. It is just a location, if you want docks those are added with another layer (usually campaign.loc) using "Map Location Edit Mode".

The Naval Base is also used to add the refit stations you see scattered throughout the map during your career.

I suppose I can note how many torpedoes I have before I refuel/rearm and just launch the appropriate number against an unsuspecting coastline and it all comes out in the end.

First, thanks for the explanation Peabody! Darwin would, of course, be available permanently, Tarakan from 8/12/41 until the Japanese landed there on 11/1/42 and Balikpapan from 8/12/41 until 23/1/42. One could even include Batavia until 3/3/42, when Japanese troops occupied the city, or Tjilatjap.
Historically no US subs made use of the refuelling possibilities of Tarakan, Balikpapan, Batavia or Tjilatjap as far as I know, but the potential was there until they were overrun. Rearming would, of course, be out of the question without torpedo and shell stocks so perhaps Frederf's suggestion of simply shooting off the extras loaded would be the best practical idea to keep things as historically accurate as possible.

Actually Rearming would not be out of the question. You may only want to refuel, but if a Sub Tender was sailed to that location with the Tanker (Or actually any supply ship) they could bring torpedos with them. You don't need the actual Sub Tender to be there for it to work, the base is the only thing needed. But if you can sail fuel to that sight you could also bring torpedos. Like I said you may not want to do it that way, but it is a possiblity. There are several "Refit Stations" like this throughout the game.

If I understand correctly, historically the sub tenders (mmm) or other bases other than those very specifically dedicated to submarines would rarely have any torpedoes and certainly not a full load. During 42/43 some submarines did run with a 1/2 load. I figure you might have 1 or 2 MK14s on a tender if another submarine dropped them off due to maintance difficulties or simply as a couple backup if they were headed home.

Problem solved- had to deactivate all JSGME-activated mods first. Will test the result first and then post in the "SH4 Downloads" section.
