Im a big fan of the Railroad Tycoon series, I specifically like RRT3 and still play it to this day even though its nearly 6 years old.
Recently I downloaded the demo for "Sid Miers Railroads" which was touted as the latest installment of the series and had a few questions for anyone whom has the full version of Railroads. I actually bought the full release version of Railroads some time ago and lost it but there was a few things that really turned me off from it. I was wondering if any of these had been addressed in the full version. 1.) Zoom scale, in the original release as in the demo you could only zoom out/in only so far and could not see large portions of the map. Has this been addressed? 2.) Sense of scale. I just got the feeling that two citys were 20 feet from one another instead of 20 miles. I doubt anything has been done about this but it was just an impression. 3.) Simple economic model (as compared to RRT3). Still the same? 4.) Frequent hang ups, loss of performance, and ctd's near endgame when alot of track / trains have been placed. 5.) AI crossing stalemates. Even though you double / triple tracks, provide cross overs etc. The AI does not do well on choosing routes and often end up at a red light stale mate that takes several minutes to resolve. The demo did seem a little better about this or I got better at laying track but I remeber it being at times a game stopper. Just wondering the retail game is only 19 bucks but Id like to know before I spring for it. The last time I got it I quickly lost interest and went back to RRT3.

I loved RRT2 and played it to death. I could never get into RRT3 because of one thing: the game's insistence that cargo be sold off at the next scheduled stop. In RRT2 I loved setting up trains that handled only one type of freight, loading up at several freight stations and then hauling it to a manufacturing station. But instead of allowing me to hold onto the freight and sell it where I could get the best price, RRT3 would sell it at the next station, where it was worth nothing.
Are there any mods for RRT3? |

You might want to look over here Hunter, if you haven't already:
http://www.tt-forums.net/ But yes, RRT and TT are massive time-sinks. Locomotion is fun too, better graphics and sound, but it hasn't got quite the following that TT has. |

I have RRT 1 and 2. I've played 1, but get bored after awhile. Not that I think it's boring; I've just discovered that I'm not very good at financial planning and business management.

I would have Railroads but it doesn't work on Vista. Which is weird because the demo does.
![]() I've played 2 in gametap, and 3 doesn't work with vista either I believe.

RRT3 once caused my system to crash
![]() I've read somewhere that the 'new' (or not so new) RR-game by Sid Meyer has a more 'toy-like' look and feel to it. That has always been kind of a put down to try the game myself. |
