Default More wishful thinking

What this game really needs is...DRILLS! You should be able to induce casualties at will for the crew to combat to improve their efficiency. A submarine crew is only as good as it drills to be. I myself am a product of drills, to this day I can still recite the immediate actions of everyone upon a jam dive scenario.

Something could be done along those lines within reason. Crew might get experience each time they do an action or a specialized training action instead of just per patrol or per ton sunk. I think that's normally the stuff you'd do on the transit to the patrol destination that most of us 4096x through.

Don't get me started on nuc drills, steam line ruptures, slow reactor coolant leaks, reactor scrams.... I much prefer my forward drills, fire in the galley, Otto fuel spills, flooding in the torpedo room, Battlestations Missile, Battlestations Torpedo. Just to name a few.

EDIT: I forgot this line "Reactor Scram, All off watch Reactor Technicians lay aft."

i agree.

or you would be the XO on a mission and your captain is killed, and you have to take over and command the crew in an intense depth charging after a convoy attack to really get you into the feeling of the game while teaching you the basics

sort of like a really really intense tutorial mission that's packed full of immersion, like your captain lying there dead riddled with bullets from a destroyer machine gunning the hell out of your conning tower, your crew scrambling to maintain control of the boat while other destroyers come in and try to rip you a new one

people screaming, blood everywhere, crazy flooding, the boat slipping out of control, and amid this chaos, the game would show you how to handle each problem as an effective commander

Aww come on. Why don't we spend a week by the pier with the hatches closed running drills doing ORSE prep?

Or he comes to you after the first depth charging of the patrol and requests you lock him in his stateroom and assume command. If you do a good job when you get back you are left in command.

I vote that the following words be entered in to the language filter; ORSE, TRE, Fast Cruise, NTPI, and InSurv. Those the ones I remember at the moment. Ah the good 'ol days.

Default drills to improve crew efficiency.

Not a bad idea.
