Blasphemy! UK plans to replace pint glasses with plastic

I have three types of glasses at my home

Crystal weizen type glasses (pint)
Whiskey Tumblers
and pint Mugs

i always have at least 2 of each type frozen.

the Weizen glasses are for any of my wheat beers, where i really want to savor the color and scent of the beer.

the whiskey tumblers, i enjoy Dissaronno Amaretto almost exclusively

pint mugs, mainly for american beers, or any particularly dark beer...

plastic cups are for broke college boys.

The bars that have a problem with people smashing gasses in each others
faces don't tend to be the classy kind of establishment where one can relish
the authentic feel of real glass. I have no problem if hey are required to use
plastic.
Some of the rougher places near me already do.

All my beer mugs and glasses are pint sized. the size beer is ment to be drank in.

this i could agree with.

if your in that type of drinking environment - chances are you dont give a damn about the decorum.

So they don't actually want to replace glasses, its just a design for a standardised plastic version.
Good move, how many times have you been to festivals in the UK and been given plastic glasses that are absolutely crap at holding liquid?
So this is the same firm doing the new design that already made a good profit designing and selling the safety glass at a price that was a fraction of the leading French version on offer to pubs.

Ah but with plastic beer pint holders (it is not a plastic glass it physically can't be) you can break it into sharp spears and stab or cut someone...

TBH, I always preferred the Beer Mug, the original dimpled UK one, for that purpose my local has mine hanging over the bar.

Better still....simply fill a trough and let them all stick their snouts in.

I've seen far too many people scarred for life by beer bottles and glasses despite the fact they have been minding their own business and simply been out for a nights enjoyment.

Plastic will suit the rabble fine.

i'm of the same mind, those older dimpled mugs were proper beer glasses, as for the yobs yeah plastic for the lot of em, oh and training on the use of toilet facilities, heavy fines for taking up hostpital time with their drunken antics and needing to detox and a permanent ban on going into a pub full stop. if you can't drink responsibly, DON'T!
i live in a town in the nw and i swear it makes me ashamed to live in the same place as these people on a friday/sat night...

Yeah , they were ideal.
They have the weight which you could swing easy and deck even the biggest, when they eventually broke you were left with the snug fitting handle which is very good for some really cutting punches .
Plus as a bonus you don't run the risk of cutting up your own palm like you do when using the nonic glass.
